I havemt had to come to this site in years. Last summer I moved and had major life changes and they have reared thier ugly heads again. Feel like I am back to square one. Brother died couple weeks ago and a string of deaths almost nine yrs ago had started them so I think thats what triggered them again. Taking .5mg ativan for the short term but need long term advice. Help

Hello and Welcome to HealingWell.  Sorry to hear about the death of your brother.  I lost my brother 3 weeks ago and it is never easy dealing with grief.

I am wondering what helped you with your anxiety nine years ago?  If you would not mind sharing a bit more history including if you were in any kind of therapy before that may help us to give you the advice you need.  You have our support so please do talk to us.

Gentle hugs to you,
Kitt

Hi Bojalaisgirl,

I'm so sorry about the death of your brother.  You must be in so much pain.  sad    You said you are taking ativan, but I wonder if you are seeing a counselor or have spoken to your doctor about the grief you are suffering.  It sounds like you have been through a lot.  You said that you moved last summer, and I'm wondering....do you have any family or friends where you live now, or anyone to offer you some support?  Please know that you're not alone.....everyone here is so compassionate and supportive.  I hope you will come back and post a bit more about your situation.

Happy Earth Day!

bojalaisgirl,
please take a little comfort in knowing that you're not back at square one. you have fought and won this battle before...you know how to get through it and you know that it's possible. I am so sorry to hear about your brother that must be so hard, anyone in your situation would be experiencing feelings of grief and anxiety..this is very normal. like kit and raniah said, there is support here and please do come back and post more of your story so we can give you some advice.

Bojalaisgirl,

I am so sorry to hear about your brother's death; that must be a very hard issue for you to face, on top of everything else.

Alwayslove has a very good point: although you feel that the symptoms are back at square one, YOU are not. You have developed many skills and strengths during these past years of fighting anxiety, and so you are better equipped. You may not feel like it, or you may feel rusty, but try to encourage yourself by the fact that you've survived in the past.

I can certainly recommend counseling very highly. It has made a world of difference in how I tackle my anxiety. There's still a long way to go, but I feel more hopeful at times thanks to the therapy.

Do please share the things that have helped you in the past.

I agree, Alwayslove made a good point. You can't have setbacks without progress. You, my friend, are having a setback. As Kitt stated, go back and think about what helped you nine years ago. What worked before will work again.

I am so sorry to hear about your brother! I have a brother and I can't imagine losing him as many of you have had to do. You and your brother are now in my prayers. Go easy on yourself and allow time to grieve!

I'm so sorry for your lost. My attacks started when my brother died in 2007. They started again recently with the death of my sister. I understand how frustrating you must feel, but this condition can crop up again in times of stress. The good thing is that you know what you're dealing with this time around and you have probably learned skills to help cope. You know the people on this board will be here for support and encouragement.
