I have hypothyroidism and whenever my thryoid is out of control I end up with horrible anxiety...does anyone else have this problem?

I was hyperthyroid at one time and I do remember having increased anxiety when it was really high. So yes, I do believe high or low when your thyroid is out of whack it can cause increased anxiety symptoms. Good luck!

Hello! I've been tested for thyroid problems because the symptoms mimic those of anxiety disorders. I don't have the disease but I'm sure if you ask your doctor, he/she will reassure you that it is normal. Hopefully, someone else will come along with more information. I sure hope you feel better!

My thyroid is okay but two times when my anxiety has flared up my doctor has done a full thyroid evaluation to make sure the anxiety wasn't resulting from thyroid issues.

I've gone thru this before when my numbers were off...my TSH went from normal (2.0) to 6.3 to 16 to .2 to now .1....and this was all in the last 8 weeks!!!!...now I'm feeling this uncontrollable anxiety requiring xanax until I can get on celexa to stabilize...this feeling is awful...

The Xanax should be helping. Ask your doctor if you can increase the Xanax until the Celexa kicks in. If you're new to Celexa, you may be experiencing side effects from that. Remember side effects can last a few weeks and may cause anxiety. Also, be very careful when weaning off the Xanax. Make sure your doctor helps you through the process. Good luck!

I actually experienced this anxiety due to the thyroid two years ago and went on celexa to help me thru...I also used the xanax at that time as well when needed....I realize xanax is addicting so I slowly weaned off of it at that time...also did the same when I got off celexa...I'm currently titrating up on the celexa slowly as I don't tolerate meds well...so I just started on 5mg and will go up to 10 on celexa in a week...I have a great psych nurse who helps me with this...it just sucks that I have to deal with this b/c my thryoid won't stay stable...
