After waiting a few weeks for the doctor's office to sign off on more treatment sessions (my previous authroization from my insurance had lapsed) I finally got the green light to make an appointment. I took the first one available which is this Friday! I am very relieved. My anxiety has not really tapered off and if anything is getting worse this week. My brother is getting married on Saturday and I'm already feeling the stress of all the events I have to attend and all the family drama.
Anyway, I am going to start CBT. I also think I need to talk to my doc about meds. I think I mentioned before, the first thing the doctors always push at me is antidepressants which I really don't want to take unless I absolutely have to as I've had bad experiences with them before.
I feel that I should instead ask about anti anxiety meds to take on an as-needed basis. I am worried that if I do ask for something like Xanax or Valium, though, that the doc will just percieve me as a pill seeker.
How do you guys approach this with your docs?
Also, can anti-anxiety meds be taken regularly at a low dose until I regain some control over my anxiety? I have health related anxiety mostly and it only crops up in certain situations at work. Otherwise, I'm okay. I don't see the need to take something daily if I am not suffering every day. Thoughts?
Thank you!

I feel the same way about meds. If your doctor is pushing on you the idea of anti-depressants, try and reason with them saying that you do not like that idea.

As for the anti anxiety meds, Im not quite sure. I would consult with a physician to be safe. Your therapist will help you throuhh this.
