Hi I'm a 30 yr old female who had knee surgery jun 3 ...Absolutely simple...Feel 100% better the next day but,
I noticed the next day other problems, Couldn't stop moving very high anxiety,
Plus I was taking deep breaths and sighing allot because airway felt strange. I talked to the anesthesiologist and he
told me that
it's a normal response. OK so Next day still felt throat weirdness but the adrenaline
rush feeling disappeared. (years ago I had a anaphylactic response to medicine
and my throat closed) So because of this throat feeling I'm having, I put myself into a panic state. I thought it was all
just because of a panic attack but, I realized that after 5 days post surgery the feeling in my throat is still there.
It feels like walking into a Steam room. I don't understand what's wrong! I go see the orthopedic Today for my Post-Op appt.
I will ask him but I need to know what's going on and how long this takes to go away..I know I was intubated because upon
awaking from surgery i felt something coming out of my mouth, . any info/Experiences is appreciated Thanks in advance!

Update: Went to see the ortho dr and he told me i wasn't intubated they use a different device that is like a balloon in the mouth.
So I'm stumped as to what is going on...I went next door to find out all the medications I was given and their was about 10 of them.

Well I know my anxiety sometimes causes a stramge feeling in my throat like I have lump in my throat or like somethings caught in my throat. Sometimes I have other weird feelings in my throat too I don't know if its from the anxiety or not but its weird. Do you really think anaphylactic reaction would just appear now? I don't know much about allergic reactions but I hope it wont and doubt it would take this long. Maybe it is just your anxiety it sucks how it can cause so many issues. I hope you have a speedy recovery and please try not to worry so much (I know easier said than done).

This too shall pass...

Hi elexis,
I had back surgery on April 2 and had HORRIBLE anxiety post surgery. I am 31 and it seems we have a lot in common already ;). I felt like I went into surgery normal and woke up a completely different person.

Anxiety can do crazy things to your body. I wonder if the fear from the shock years ago came back after surgery because of the panic you must have experienced with your throat closing up? Sort of like post-tramatic stress. Sometimes scary experiences deep down can trigger this response. So, when you started to experience the slightest feeling of your throat being "weird" your body reacted. I know with my own stress, my throat sometimes feels tight like there is a golf ball in there. I bet that is what you are experiencing. Good luck and keep us posted.

I have a feeling all of this will pass as you calm down and your fears subside. The anxiety is from your surgery. I've read about a lot of people here who have become anxious and/or depressed after surgery. It's normal. Give yourself time. You've been through a lot. Relax and find something relaxing to do.
