Hi,

I'm sorry your feeling so darn yucky right now. But as the doctors have told you. You are fine.

Now I know that is hard to believe. But it sounds like your having a panic attack. I think your numb feeling and tingling is due to muscle tension. Its very common. I deal with it a lot when I'm stress or my anxiety is high.

A hot bath a muscle rub and some tea might help relax you. Thats all it sounds like to me. Just to much tension has caused your muscles to cramp up.
Yes you have a major artery in your neck. And it will pulse. A lot of Doctors will check for a beat in your neck. The lump in your neck that you might be feeling is actually a lymph node. You have one on both sides of your neck. No biggie we all have them.

Take a deep breath calm down you will be fine. Just try to relax and remember everything is ok.

I would also make another appt to see the doc and explain your fears and what is going on and how your reacting to the situations. Maybe he can help you come to terms with anxiety, panic attacks. And get you into some therapy and maybe some meds to help ease the problem.
Don't leave anything out. Including what your going through tonight. Make sure he understands the situations. If he can't grasp what your going through find another doc who will listen. Its very important to find a good doctor who will listen and understand and work with you to find the best treatment.
Don't just settle.

Yes your right eating healthy helps keep your body up and running like it should. But at your age it should not be a huge concern. Even though proper eating is a life style that is important to everyone. But hey we don't always eat like we should. You can lose weight do to anxiety, and panic attacks. Its very common indeed. Though I get the weight gain. Others lose. Go figure. If your worried about how your eating change it. To much sugar, caffeine and other things can stimulate attacks. So limit them. If your a soda drinker (like myself) drink decaff soda's that are sugar free. Or grab ya a bottled water and add some crystal light flavoring to it. They are actually really good!

Welcome btw. This is a great family here. You will find lots of advice and support.

Take care and get some rest.

Are you clinching your teeth?

Tight muscles can effect all parts of the body. Throat, face, arms, chest, tummy even. It can be very unnerving. And very common. Try rubbing your shoulders a little. I bet your arms will feel a little numb at first but then a since of relief will come. Like a rush of blood with come through.
I have to do this often. Just take a deep breath and relax honestly. Its all muscle tension and nerves going wacko.

Just remember these "symptoms" and you can over come the fear of them in time. Just remember the next time they come up. You didn't die from them before. You didn't pass out. Might of gotten upset and that is ok.

You are fine just over stressed. Take it easy.

Gosh for me its been umm 28 years. I'm only 34 now. But been dealing with this since I was about 8 years old. A lot of people have a hit and miss situation.
It will come up for a few months , years and then go away. People like me deal with this 24/7. So it depends on the situation.

And the weak lightheaded ness is also common. Its from the anxiety. It to will pass. Sometimes I feel like it is a challenge even to get up and walk to the couch which is not far from my computer. Just watch your breathing. Its very important to calm down.

Teenage years are very stressful.

You have school, career's friends, family. No telling what kinda of moneies you worry about already. Girlfriends, social life, you mentioned sports. All that can lead to stress.

Believe it or not you might be young but you have tons of worries. They might seem small but non the less they are worries. Everyone including babies have stress.
Stress is part of our lives. Even the most carefree people have stress they just hide it well or manage it better then others.

Anxiety can pop its ugly head at anytime, place or event. There is not time line or limits to when it can happen. We never know. Some things can cause them. Like social anxiety. The fear of being around people.

Finding the triggers and defeating them is one way to help ease the problem. But there is not a sure fix for anxiety and panic attacks.

That is how anxiety works though. It just pops up without warning. Learning to stop it in its tracks and taking control is the key to it.

It takes time to learn the triggers though. You will get there. In time.

Just thought I'd comment on this. I have had anxiety since I was 12 years old. A little over 12yrs now. Mine comes and goes and can last anywhere from hours to months. I had a real bad anxiety spell when I was 17, I'll never forget it. I missed over a week of school, missed my senior trip, almost missed graduation due to this horrible evil anxiety. All I could do was lay in bed and think that I was dying. This lasted for months. I felt like I wasn't breating properly, always lightheaded, felt that I was going to pass out...etc....all the great symptoms that come along. My mom took me to the DR and he prescribed some medication which did help and eventually I started feeling better. Not to say that now, because I'm going thru the same anxiety now, thats been about 2 months now. But I'm finally going to see a therapist next week, which I wished I would have done years ago, that might be an option for you, I heard it helped. I'll let you know!! For the meantime pratice breathing and distraction techinques. All the best

Dear Whatswrongwithme,

Stop the "stinking thinking"  You are not going to die, nobody dies from anxiety even if it feels awful.  Take a big deep breath and do talk with your parents about seeing a physician to get a diagnosis.  There are many things to be done to help you with anxiety.  First of all anxiety can strike anyone at any age so being a teen does not mean you won't have an anxiety attack.

We are all glad you found HealingWell and you have met some of our great members.  One of the best ways to cope with anxiety is by talking about your feelings and letting others share their experiences with you.  Do talk with your parents, teachers or anyone you feel comfortable with.  Sharing a problem is like halving it.

Welcome to HealingWell.

Hello! Just wanted to say I understand what you're feeling. I've had anxiety/panic attacks off and on for 25 years. You get better at it, believe me. The first thing is not to add the 2nd fear when the symptoms come on. The first fear causes the symptoms but by adding the 2nd fear, the what-ifs, it makes the episodes last longer and they're more scarey.

I would definitely discuss this with your parents. One or both of them may have some experience with anxiety.

If your breathing is off, your body continues breathing for you. To prove this, hold your breath. You'll notice after a little while you are forced to breathe. Also, your body breathes for you just fine while you sleep.

I know this is scarey and you're young. My heart goes out to you. But I also know you can get through this. It takes knowledge, time and patience. I'll be praying for you!

You have anxiety, plan and simple. I suggest you speak with your parents about this and get into the doctor and get a good physical exam. There are medications and therapy too that will help alot to calm the anxiety down. When my anxiety acts up I always get nauseous and diarrhea, my breathing speeds up and I tend to hyperventilate. The hyperventilating will cause me to have tingling all over my body and sometimes my fingers will lock up if it is too bad. Everything you are experiencing sounds just like anxiety. Please talk to your parents, you will not die from anxiety.

It absolutely sounds like an anxiety issue.  I had a similar situation.  What happens is you notice one odd symptom and dwell on it constantly.  It develops into persistant worrying and you go through all the scenarios in your mind of what could be wrong with you.  Suddenly you develop this overwhelming self awareness and begin to notice every little change that happens to your body; things that normally you would have never noticed.  All the anxiety and worrying about your health can then produce new small and benign symtoms that can fuel your suspiscions of some undetected illness. It's very difficult to pull out of this cycle, but you can do it.  The first step is to truly believe what you've been told by your doctor and accept that anxiety is the root of all your problems.  Then you can focus on curbing your feelings and I promise you the physical symptoms will subside shortly.

Good luck to you. I hope you find relief soon

Roger

Reading your posts I had to join and comment. I have had panic attacks for 25 years now. Highschool was a very difficult time for me, especially because I did not understand what was happening to me. I remember feeling things similar to what you are feeling and just wanting to to stop. The best advice I can give is to learn about anxiety, how it works and why your body is reacting the way it is. When you understand what is happening you can begin to talk yourself through the attack and back down to a calm state. The other's on this board are giving excellent advice, talk to your parents, talk to a doctor. My doctor has helped me understand a great deal. I happen to be going through a period right now in my life where the anxiety has started up again, which is why I am up right now surfing the boards. Remember you are not alone with this, there are many of us out there, and you can overcome this and feel completely normal again.

Don't loose hope, the first doctor I went to said I had an attitude problem and was faking the anxiety for attention. The second doctor would sleep while I spoke to him. The third doctor I saw is the same doctor I am with today. Just try to keep positive thoughts and try not to dwell on the negative scary thoughts. I know this is easier said than done, but just try to remember it will pass.

Whatswrongwithme,

You have been posting for 10 days now and nowhere do I see that you have taken the advice provided by the members of this great forum.  I do not read that you have talked with your parents or seen a physician.

IMHO you are just posting all the sx you are having without making any effort to try to help yourself. It does sound like you have anxiety but we are not professionals so please do seek out professional advice.

Here is a site that you may find more helpful:
