I had an mild anxiety attack about 4 years ago. Last night, I had a major one. My heart was racing, I had to keep going to the bathroom all night long. I got sick at my stomach & was having dry heaves. I didn't get much sleep & today I feel like crap. my stomach is still upset. My dr gave my visteril for attacks but it didn't even touch it. My Dr also gave me celexa in the past but I am not taking it. Is celexa good for anxiety attacks? What advice can you give me.

Hi Winter, Celexa/citalprom is commonly prescribed to help with anxiety and depression. I took it for 2 years and helped me alot. It can take 2weeks to work tho. I would say if the anxiety are stopping you enjoying your life then taking celexa maybe an option you want to explore. I always found a lack of sleep made my anxiety alot worse.

I dont kno much about visteril but the celexa will atleast sould help you sleep.

When I did take celexa, I noticed a funny feeling would come over me like I was a little high. Has anyone else felt this way?

I used to get the feeling like i was walking around in a happy bubble, so i sorta kno wht u mean. For me this gradually decreased with time tho.

Just out of interest how much celexa did you used to take?

Good Morning, this is Kitt.  Just wondering how you have been doing over the four years since you had a mild anxiety attack?  I also would be interested to know how you ended up with the Celexa and Vistaril (Hydroxyzine).  Only if your willing to share. :-)

Also anything change in your life recently that may have triggered this panic attack?

I am so sorry to hear of your distress and please know we are here to help and support you so keep on talking to us.
Wishing you peace,
Kitt

I have been doing fine. Now that I think about it, I had a bad attack last year around this time. but nothing since then. I have ulcerative colitus & my GP put me on it for depression because of UC but I didn't take it. my ob/gyn gave me visteril for anxiety related to me UC. For when I got to strange places & worry about the restroon situation.

Hey Winter,

I am Gail *Nanners* and I suffer with Crohns Disease myself. I developed anxiety related to the same issues due to the Crohns. I take Xanax when needed for my anxiety. I take the lowest dose available at the first hint of my anxiety and it stops it in its tracks. I get the same symptoms as you when my anxiety ramps up. It doesn't make me loopy, but I have a pretty high drug tolerance due to taking pain meds for my Crohns for so long. Maybe you can talk to your doctor about a different med to help out on those bad days.

Hugs

It sounds to me like you had a flu bug last night. It's quite possible you recognized some of the symptoms as anxiety/panic and so brought on a panic attack. But I would bet you had a flu bug. Take it easy the next few days. Make sure you drink lots of fluids (no caffeine). Feel better!

I think I got a stomach bug also. My dad had a stomach bug last week & I was around him. My stomach is starting to feel better but I have lingering effects of the anxiety attack. I am worried that it will happen again. I feel kind of jittery worrying about having an attack when I am not at home. I have a low dose of klonipin. Is xanax better that klonipin? I know that the viseril didn't even phase my attack.

I can't say if Klonopin is better or if Xanax is. I've tried both and they both did the job. It's individual. Make sure you have enough of either one for those moments when you feel an anxiety attack coming on. But also learn some relaxation techniques. Change your diet, get some exercise, get rid of all the stress that you can. Buy some books on anxiety/panic attacks.

If an attack happens when you're away from home, go limp. Let your body do whatever it's going to do. The attack will go away. Remember the symptoms are uncomfortable but not life-threatening. Don't get into anticipating attacks or you'll be in the middle of a vicious cycle.

Like I said, I think you had the flu. Give yourself a few days to recuperate. Wash your hands alot. The adrenalin that is released during an attack can stay with you for awhile. You can feel exhausted after. Take care and feel better!

Winter,

I also wanted to add that when my anxiety ramps up the first thing I get is diarrhea, nausea, and sometimes vomit. I think because of our delicate guts thats the first place anxiety would hit us.

That makes sense, Nanners. It's the weakest parts of our bodies that get hit first. Sadly.

Hey Winter,

Anxeity, Depression and Chronic IBD sometimes get all jumbled together and the thought that you had just a bug went through my head too.  With any IBD it is normal to think you are perhaps having an attack which would kick in your anxiety.

My hubby has Crohn's and if he gets a bug I always become more anxious just in case it may be his Crohn's.

I am glad you are feeling less anxious and hope you keep on talking with us as we are here to help.

Hugs to you,

Kitt

When I had the attack last year, I was up all night in the bathroom wiht diarrhea & gagging. I would never throw up. It is just hard for me to imagine that it is lasting the entire night & day afterwards. Talking to you all has really helped a lot.
