i have real bad anxiety and ulcerative colitis which makes it worse, this is my second time taking celexa, ive been taking it since november, 30 mg and it's been working great, i started drinking alcohol this summer just on the weekend or occasional weekday at parties and stuff, not for anxiety-just for fun. now my anxieties gotten bad. Could it be from drinking occasionally?

Hi...i used to drink  socially and i take celexa....However i dont drink alcohol any longer because it says under the warning part of the drug not to mix  it with the alcohol...Not sure if its causing your anxiety but it could very well be....I would not drink.

My anxiety is bad and I suffer from shortness of breath...I tried drinking thinking it might help...I guess it helped me to relax and not think about the SOB during the drinking. It worked for a while. I would still be anxious and nervous the next day but the time I relaxed was worth it to me at the time. Then...suddenly I started getting even more anxiety the day after drinking until I ended up in the ER feeling like I was dying! Oh no! This happened several times before I was willing to admit the drinking was making everything worse. I quit drinking completely and even though I still have anxiety and shortness of breath...it's not nearly as bad as it was when I was drinking. Be careful with drinking. I know it affects my nervous system.

Hello and welcome,

I would suggest you give up or at least cut back on the alcohol.  It you use our search feature you will find many threads that address the use of alcohol and AD medications.

Good Luck

Anxious, I have Crohns Disease myself and had to quit drinking mainly because of the IBD. But I would have to agree that it probably isn't wise to be drinking while on the anxiety meds, let alone have an inflammatory bowel disease. I know it sucks, but its probably better for your body.

Good luck
