Good Morning,

I am sorry to read that you are dealing with obsessive thoughts of death and dying.

I was pleased to read that  you are going to  seek out professional help from a therapist or Psychiatrist who specializes in Obsessive thoughts disorder. It sounds like the pain and suffering you are having from these obsessive thoughts are difficult for you to explain.

This is not an uncommon condition and is very treatable. Have you seen a physician re this issue at all as often medicaiton helps in controlling the obessive thoughts?  For some individuals a mood stabilizer helps to stop the cycle of obsessive thoughts.  Please do talk with a physician/psychiatrist re this option.

I hope you  stick with us as we are here to help.

Gentle Hugs,

Kitt

Hello,
The only thing I can think of that may help you cope with your fear is...if you are a Christian then you believe in God and in an everlasting life...and in heaven. So prayer may help you deal with thoughts of death. If you are not a Christian then surely you know that before you were born there was no you and it didn't hurt or frighten you and when you die there will be no more you and you won't know and it won't hurt you. I'm not going to go into what you should or shouldn't believe in nor will I tell what my beliefs are...only to say that I believe you really are afraid and fear is not a comfortable feeling. A counsoler may be able to help you and I'm glad you have one. I wish you luck in resolving this fear. Joni

I hope that you are able to talk with your family, parents, grandparents, sibling or someone who is living with you.  It is always good to be able to share a fear such as yours as talking about it helps you to feel better.

Take care,

Kitt

Honestly, I'd say slap yourself and pull yourself together. You're letting this get too far out of control; try concentrating your mind on something else like a game or go out with a friend. You have an appointment with a psychologist already, and that's progress. However, after reading your posts, you might want to change your visit to see a psychiatrist who can start you on a medication regimen to help keep your anxiety and depression at bay. Good luck.

I suggest you talk with your parents about your obsessive thoughts and get into some therapy to help you change your thought patterns. Good luck!

I too think about death all the time so i understand exactly how you feel. I have been sufferiing from P/A since 1997 and that i s one of the biggest source of my anxiety. I think about me dying, my parents dying i also obsess about how i'm going to die. Also everytime i get sick i think i'm going to die. I mean it can just be the flu or something or i could just feel a funny feeling and i automatically think i'm going to die. I haven't traveled in years because i always think if i travel too far from home i'm going to have a panic attack on the inerstate and die.

The fear of death is something that alot of people who suffer from P/A have.LIke someone else said above it is called obsessive thinking.Because you keep thinking about something over and over again then eventually you become obsessed with that thought to the point that it starts to alter your life like it has done to us. The key is to try stop letting that thought take over your whole mind set. I think most people think about death and when their time is going to come,it's just when it starts to consume your every thought is when it becomes a problem. I dont think that there is a day that goes by that i dont think about death. And sometimes i cry as well. When i'm having a bad panic attack i think i'm about to die. Like you said when you caught a cold you thought that it was the swine flu. I do that all the time,i always think of the worst case scenario. Instead of just saying i have a commom cold like alot of people have and eventually i'll get over it.I always think something bad like i have pnemonia or something and eventualy if i dont go to the doctor i'm going to die. I always tell people in my mind i have died a thousand deaths. But i really feel sorry for you because i know exactly how you feel. It is a horrible feeling. For me i want to stop thinking about it but i cant.

Dear Alex,

Please do talk seriously with Mom about getting into therapy as I feel this will be a great help for you.  You should not have to feel sad and worried all the time at your age.  Life should be good for you so do talk with Mom.

Also you may want to share with Mom that telling you about the whimpering makes you feel anxious about your fears of dying.

You are not dying dear Alex, you have anxiety IMHO.

Hugs to you and plese know we care.

I would also suggest that you only watch funny movies and stay away from the daily news. It works for me.  Also talk to yourself rationally about death. The chances of a healthy 13 year old dying are so small!  Worrying about it will not help you. Focus on the things that you have control over in your life: like eating right, excercising, not using drugs, etc. These are all things that will help keep you healthy. Try to keep your mind off of of your worries by keeping your mind busy on other things. Call your friends, talk to your family, read a good book, watch something funny, take a walk, try yoga. Hope you are feeling happier today.

Well, in reality we live in a much safer world than has existed in some time. In spite of swine flu, the terrorist threat, etc.

Gone are the days of the cold war when we all worried a nuclear war could begin and end in the blink of an eye. There are no longer hundreds of thousands of tanks lined up on either side of the Iron Curtain waiting for WWIII to start. Cars are designed to be much safer and fatalities are down in spite of more people and more cars on the road all the time. We don't have to deal with really nasty infectious diseases like polio or smallpox. Crime rates are down almost everywhere compared to 10 and especially 20 years ago.

In spite of the doom and gloom that's always on the news, unless you're in Darfor or something life has really improved for most of us during our short times here on Earth. I'd urge you to think about that. Keep the bigger picture in mind and realize that it is indeed a fact that we living in a relatively safe and secure period of human history.
