Kay i am sorry to hear that! I bet that is tuff to deal with. I have had a few family members that were addicts and one that still is.I learned the hard way that there is very little you can do to help them other than pray for them. They have to want to help themselves. I went through alot of ups and downs with my dad who is currently still on drugs. I literally bent over backwards trying to help him. Taking him back and forth to meetings and putting him in all kinds of rehab programs and nothing worked because i wanted him to be off the drugs but the problem was i wanted it more than he did. I learned that his addiction was bigger than anything i could ever try to do for him and until he was ready to do it there was nothing i or anyone else for that matter could do. Another thing you will wear yourself out trying to help someone who dont want to help themself. And that's basically what i did wore myself out only for him to go right back to the drugs. So basically i just gave him to a higher power. But one thing you dont want to do is enable him. I use to do that too.Now when he calls me me and tell me he has checked himself in different treatment programs i just try to give him words of enocuragement. Basically thats the only thing you can do is if he tries to himself is to stand by him and encourage him. Good luck!

Hi Kay

Welcome to the forum nice to meet you. Sorry to hear you are having high anxiety at the moment, I can relate to that and it's not nice can I suggest you go and chat with your doctor and see if there is any thing they can do to help you out in this rough time. Please know we are here for you so keep posting and you will find good support here as you have seen from Panike who has given great input. I have had alcohol & drug addiction and it took me a long time to realise I had a problem and seek help even though friends and family told me to get help. I would just carry on being there for him and keep him updated with support groups. It sounds like you have done a great job supporting your guy but you also need to take care of yourself which is important so stick in there and let us know how you get on. Good luck my friend.

Good Morning and welcome to HealingWell.
I am sorry to read you are having increased anxiety sad
Perhaps if you would share a bit more about your anxiety with us we would be able to advise you on how to decrease this anxiety.

I see you are having problems with your boyfriend but I would really like to hear how you are feeling?  If you would like to share with us that would be great.

Again a warm welcome to HW.

Hugs
Kitt

Have you thought of attending the Narcotics Anonymous meetings? As said above only your boyfriend can make the decision to stop his drug use. But at the NA meetings they can help you. Sending prayers your way! Do check out the NA meetings.

Good luck!

Gosh...Please can someone please give me some advice. Please explain to me what anxiety is....This is how my day started...I get up with my kids for school and drink about 2 cups of coffee.Everything is fine. All of sudden I feel this pain in my chest...then I get to feel worried and I start feeling a little sweaty.I just want to get up and go to the emergency room, and yell please help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I got an ekg in july for the same chest pains and my doctor said my heart is normal. And said well its anxiety and you need to get help.and sent me on my way.I ask the nurse like a dummy so what does normal mean?she said your heart is fine and i started crying. But the doctor just sent me on my way....The only thing the doc said is your heart is normal,I said am i really feeling the chest pain or is my mind playing tricks on me?He said oh yea,you are feeling the pains but its not your heart.Okay then, but WHY do I keep feeling these pains on and off through out the day.I try to ignore them. Then I will have no pain. Then I get to thinking Hey i got no pain..then here they come.Am I crazy someone?

Kay: It seems like his addiction is a main cause of your stress. Have you tried talking to him and expressing your concerns? Unfortunately with addiction, there isn't a whole lot you can do. They eventually have to want to be clean and get better more than they want their drug. You may be able to give him a push in the right direction by explaining to him how his addiction is affecting him as well as you. Hope you feel better soon.
