Over the summer I bought this combo of essential oils that's supposed to help people when you are congested. It says on the bottle that it's "invigorating". It smells similiar to Vics vapo rub and I think it's the same idea. It has eucalyptus, pepperment and a bunch of ther pure essential oils I can't think of right now. Last night I woke up kind of stuffed up in the middle of the night and I thought I'd try it in lieu of taking an advil cold and sinus. I opened the top and took a big wiff, it cleared up my notrils and I went back to bed. Minutes later I felt like my heart was jumping out of my chest. I went downstairs, Tried to have warm milk, did deep breathing, but I ended up having a full clown PA, rapid heartbeat, sweating, dizzyness, etc. I was very close to waking up hubby starting to think that something was really wrong. I walked around a little and did more breathing excercises and finally I was back to normal again. I have been trying to be more homeopathic lately, but does anyone know if some essential oils can increase heart rate, or was it just a coincidence? I used it once before and it seemed to wake me up a little, but I didn't feel like last night. and on that note, are there essential oils that can calm me, other than lavendar?

Inhaling deeply in general can mess with your heart rate, but especially if it has an alcohol base. I would not suggest doing that again simply because it might be better to let them diffuse from your bedside table rather then inhaling them to the exclusion of everything else.
