Hi everyone!  Well I'll get right down to it bc I'm not feeling good.

2 nights ago I found myself with this strange head ach.  Not a severe one but one that made me feel somehow sick.  Then I felt a ball of something nasty in the pit of my stomach.  I started to feel like I might get sick to my stomach.  Then the ball moved up and into my chest where it stayed the rest of the night.  I started throwing up with diarrea at around 9pm.  I threw up at least once every 10 mins and when I wasnt throwing up, I felt like I was about to.  Plus I'm not trying to be gross so if your weak stomached, look away NOW!  I mean it, curiosity killed the cat, dont look! ................ it was really bad out of both ends!  I couldnt tell if I was peeing or ...the other!.................  I was so sick in the ER that I went to the bathroom and almost passed out and pulled the emergency cord.  Nobody came though.  Then I finally went to a room and when the doctor came in I had already threw up everything that was in me and I was constantly dry heaving!  They gave me ice chips and iv fluids with 25 mgs of phenegren (sp?).  Then when I was still throwing up they gave me 12 more mgs of it.  Then when I was still throwing up, they kicked me out saying it was an infection somewhere and I'd have to ride it out.  Ok well, I started feeling better the next afternoon (yesterday).  Well when I woke up this morning I was still a little weak but otherwise alright.  Then I did something STUPID!!!!  I went out and got a chili dog.  I know I know, dumb!  I ate a chili dog and a few fries.  A little while later, now I'm feeling sick again.  I took the 25 mgs of phenegren the doc sent me home with.  I feel a little better.  I still feel it though.

Ok what I'm worried about is a few things.  I want to believe that its just the chili dog thats making me feel this way.  That I'll feel kinda bad tonight but it wont get as bad as it was.  But my fear is that its something really bad.  Like for one, I get uti's very easily.  Urinary tract infections.  I seem to get them often.  Well what if thats whats wrong?  Like what if its complications from that?  I'm feeling that burning sensation when I pee.  Not any abdominal pain though.  But I'm still scared that could be it.  Or could it be some other strange infection thats going to kill me?  Do you nurses see alot of patients that were sick with a stomach bug and then ate something wrong too fast and got sick again?
I freak out easily so please, keep that in mind when you give me your honest opionions.

Thank you ahead of time for not just reading this and not commenting!

Well, I'll throw a couple of things out there.

You probably had some kind of infection in your stomach. Your immune system apparently fought it off because you were feeling better, but your stomach had a little trauma and you may have something like gastritis...inflamed stomach lining. It just needs time to heal. Yes, eating something like a chili dog would indeed be bad if you had gastritis. Both the hot dog itself and the chili...bad stuff. But it's probably not going to make you sick like you were I don't think. You've just irritated your stomach more by eating that. So I'd stick to liquid foods like chicken soup for a day or two. Bread is okay. Just nothing spicy or greasy. Stay away from red meat especially, no matter how it's prepared. I've had gastritis several times and if that's what's bothering you, I would think you'd feel better in a few days. Be careful what you eat for a couple of weeks.

As far as the burning goes, perhaps you got a little dehydrated when you were sick and since your immune system was busy maybe you have a bladder infection or something like that.

I don't know...I'm just throwing things out there. Take care of yourself and I'm thinking you will feel alright. If you feel the need to go to the doctor again, by all means do it if you are insured and able.

There are a couple of nurses around here and they can probably give you better guidance than I just did, so stick around.

I agree with Debaser- sounds like a tummy bug and you should stick to bland foods and liquids in the days following such an episode. Have you considered you may have had food poisoning?

Make sure you stay hydrated, keep the fluids up and dont let negative thoughts get the best of you. If your bladder is concerning you, see a dr. In the meantime, drinking cranberry juice is excellent for uti's as it cleanses the bladder of toxins.

I hope you find some relief,

Maz XX

I agree wholeheartedly with both the above responses. I agree too you probably had a stomach bug and like debaser said the chili dog probably irritated an already irritated tummy. As for the UTI, they have a med that helps the irritation of a UTI called AZO. Its over the counter, you might want to give that a try and the cranberry juice/pills help too. Good luck!

Great advice from everyone! You surely are dehydrated from losing all that fluid out of your body. I would see how you feel in a couple of days. If your still having burning when you uninate then call your doc. No need to go to the emergency room for that. You just need to give a little sample. Glad you are feeling somewhat better. After anyone has the stomach bug around here we usually stick to the brat diet (banana, rice, applesauce and toast) and maybe soup. I also find scrambled eggs to be gentle on my stomach, but some people do not. Drink lots of fluids, maybe some gatoraide too.

Thank you, thank you so much!!!  I'm so glad I posted here!!!  I woke up this morning feeling better in the tummy area.  I went up stairs though and tried to eat some waffels with a little syrp and I got the most incredible heart burn!  Felt like it was hard for the food to go down.  Then I noticed one of my lympthnodes seems to be swollen a little.  Maybe its all in my head with the lympthnode, I dont know.  I feel it and it doesnt seem too bad now.  And its only been a few minutes.

If I do have a uti, I do have those cranberry pills.  Do you think its ok to go ahead and take them?  I mean, with my stomach and all?  Just making sure it wont irritate my stomach.  But I know alot of you are nurses and I know poor Maz has seen her fair share of illness.  Its wonderful to get input from you guys!

I'm just going through such a horrible time right now!!!!!  I have my daughter and I'm trying to get custody of her and her father told me he's going to fight me for it.  I'd be ok bc I have a job lined up for as soon as I finish school.  I finish school in 2 weeks.  Problem is, if I miss one more day, I cant go back and I have to start over.  Then I'll probably loose the position I want to work for.  And the housing authorities have me an apartment ready as soon as I have the money saved for the down payment which is about $600.  I have $400 so far.  I just have the most extreem health anxiety!!!!  I go to a therapist for it and I take my meds.  I still just suffer so much!  I fear my own body so much!  No meds have ever been able to stop it.  I've been going to therapy for it most of my life.  Its all just repetative now.  I try to use the skills I've learned but I still cant seem to shake this HUGE phobia I have of my own body!  Everything is riding on me and I'm terrified!!!  If I miss one day of school.... If I dont get that job.... If I dont get the place....  Oh God, If I dont get primary custody of my son!!!!  I have the want to additude!  I have the will power and I'm in no way lazy!  I have depression at times and it makes me tierd but pushing myself is what keeps me going.  That and my daughter.  I'm just afraid that at this time, theres more at steak than just having a bad day of health anxiety.  For the first time ever, everything is riding on my ability to cope and do what I have to do!  And it does terrify me!

Anyway, thank you for reading and answering my questions!  Your a great bunch of people and I'm lucky to have found you!

Good Morning Jen,

A couple of things, did you have a fever with this episode of "flu like sx?" If it was just the old fashion stomach flu it needs to run it's course and you should give your stomach a rest. Make sure you drink at least one ounce of fluids every hour until the nausea and vomiting are past or you are feeling better. Gatorade is a great choice. Then restart to feed your stomach a bland diet, rice, banannas, toast and applesauce. Once you feel like the "bug" has run it's course you can add your regular diet back in but be careful for those chili dogs :)

Most important rest, let your body heal itself. Don't stress yourself by running around, the world will still be there once your feeling better. Try to stop the spinning thoughts by thinking about the good things in your life and know we are here for you and we care.

Gentle hugs to you and take care.

Thank you Kitt! It does mean the world to me to have you all care for me so much! I really need it right now!

Is it a bad idea to take vitamin C right now? My lympthnodes are swollen and I know that means my body is fighting off infection. Vitamin C I know can help the immune system. But would it be too rough on my stomach?

Its hard to say if the Vitamin will upset your stomach or not. I think the cranberry pills will be okay though. I have a 34 year history with Crohns Disease and vitamins and such upset my tummy, but thats me.

Stay strong Jennara, and just think of all the good possibilities coming your way. Don't fret about missing school. Just know you can do anything you set your mind too. With my Crohns you would be surprised what I have learned to work thru. Good luck!

It seems like you're doing better emotionally. Glad to hear that. Stomach problems like you had can sure throw people for a loop. No shame in it.
