Good Morning and welcome to HealingWell. Memory loss can happen to anyone, regardless of his or her age.

Too much stress over long periods of time can impede brain function in a major way. Anxiety is really only high levels of stress over a long period of time sustained by bad thoughts. Lower the anxiety and it may help with your memory loss problem.

There are also many physical reasons for memory loss so please do seek out the advice of your physician.

Again welcome to HealingWell. We love new members.

Hi I hope you find HW a good place that you can come and get some great advice! And Kitt who wrote above me always gives good advice and I agree with her that you should probably see your physician. I started having anxiety and dissociative disorder problems about 2 months ago and I have noticed a big change in my memory. I feel like it's partly because I have trouble concentrating now which is most likely caused from anxiety, but I'm not for sure about that as I haven't been to the doctor. I don't take any meds either. Sometimes I'll scare myself into thinking I have a brain tumor or alzheimers or something ridiculous when my anxiety kicks in, then when my anxiety subsides I realize I was ridiculous. Alot of the time to make myself feel better I list off in my brain everything that has already happened to me throughout the day. Sometimes it takes me some time to remember everything but I generally remember everything and it helps me to not worry about it as much. I also don't know if my memory really is any different than it used to be because I never really put it to the test like I do now because I worry about it. I think ultimately it just has to do with the fact that I just don't pay enough attention because I'm concentrated on my own thoughts alot. Also over the past week my anxiety has faded significantly and I have noticed my memory has improved and I concentrate alot better. If youre not in school try reading or taking online quizzes. Or go to the resources page on here and do the CBT(cognitave behavioral therapy) on the link to moodysGYM. Someone suggested it to me on here and you have to work and use your brain a bit to figure out what to do. That's seemed to help me. I suppose just try to get some brain exercise. :) I dunno how much help I was but that's personally what I do and how I feel!

Good luck!

Well for me I feel depersonalization and derealization, which is feeling outside of your own body and questioning reality. Also there are times that my vision gets blurry, the world looks sort of distorted in a way, and I get really dizzy and light and tingly feeling. Also I think the sense of impending doom that you get from anxiety, mainly panic attacks, makes you assume the worst.

Another reason may be because you know that it's something to do with your mind that you are feeling that way and you assume it must be something worse than just anxiety. Anxiety is highly underestimated by most people who have never experienced it or don't know someone who as experienced it. It's so hard to describe really but maybe this link will help you out. It lists symptoms :)

http://www.anxietycentre.com/anxiety-symptoms.shtml

Alot of the time when I start feeling a symptom I'm not familiar to I will tell myself there is something seriously wrong and I go to this page and always find that it's an anxiety symptom, it's just new to me.

Usually when people contend that they are going crazy, in light of an anxiety disorder, it means that they have not reconciled the impact of their symptoms with their self-awareness. In other words, they are aware that something is wrong but they simultaneously can't understand that such irregularities are rooted in verifiable symptoms. As Paige noted, the first logical step would be to learn about the anxiety symptoms in question and then decide if your sense of self implies something worse or beyond such symptoms. Try to translate your unidentified feelings into concrete symptoms and then continue from there.

Good Morning,

Sorry to hear you are still having issues but I would really like you to think about seeing your physician and perhaps a therapist to help you through this tough time.

Also do not think you are mad, however you do seem to have anxiety which is a very controable mental health disorder. Millions of people have this disorder including everyone who is posting in this forum so know you are in good company.

I wish you peace,

Kitt
