First I want to say hello and Happy Holidays to my A&P family I hope everyone is doing well. I hope I'm not repeating an issue that someone else has stated because I haven't been on as much. I was wondering if anyone else experiences this sort of difficulty breathing issue. Sometimes out of nowhere it feels like I'm not getting enough air. Sometimes I notice that it happens when I'm uncomfortable such as when I'm riding in the car or out shopping. Sometimes it comes when I'm simply talking. It kinda feels like someone is giving me a tight hug. Its usually accompanied by that awful lump in the throat feeling or some sort of chest discomfort. Like I stated before I get palpitations but all of the tests came back normal. I also have the tendency to hold my breath when I'm irritated or uncomfortable, and as ridiculous as it sounds sometimes I don't even realize it right away. I really hate this feeling because it scares me and almost everytime I feel it it sends me into a full blown PA. Does this sound like something new I should be concerned about? Does anyone else experience this?

Sounds exactly like anxiety to me. If you are constantly thinking about your breathing you are going to feel short of breath.

I agree with Nanners as I've went through the same problems. . . The more I focused on my breathing, the more I felt like I was not getting enough oxygen.

Good luck and keep us posted :)

That is exactly how I feel sometimes! I will randomly feel like i can't get a full breath of air . . .in the middle of talking, or using the computer, ..but surprisingly ive never gotten that feeling while jogging/exercising/ hot yoga. when i start to feel like i can't breath i will start to panic and get anxiety and it becomes even harder to breath.. =/ I am wondering how i can treat such a weird problem bc ive gotten a phsyical exam recently and i seem to be in good health. its so stressful huh ?.. i have an appointment next monday with a psychiatrist for anxiety. wonder if it will help this problem..

Twistedmentality, Yes I know how you feel. If it weren't for the fact that my bloodwork and heart tests came back normal I would be in the ER. I also visited the GERD forum because I heard that my issues kinda sound like that. I am waiting for some of those guys replies but I am also planning in see my doc about this just be sure and get his opinion. I hope you feel better also and thanks for responding.

Nellebutter- I have been experiencing the exact same symptom! And it has been going on for MONTHS now. I usually get it while I am at the computer..it starts out as a weird feeling in my throat...like I am having difficulty swallowing...and then progresses into feeling as though I can not breath...like something is restricting me from taking in full air. Naturally my mind starts racing with thoughts of "am I having a heart attack". Which sends me into a full blown panic attack. After the panic subsides I get VERY sleepy-like. It is a very scary feeling! I always say to myself(after it passes) that I am going to remember it is just a symptom of anxiety and the more worked up I get over it....the worse I make it. But I always manage to panic again when I get it. The thing I have never been able to figure out about panic attacks is....why do they(for me) always seem to happen when I am ....not upset or anxious about anything??? Like for example..I will be sitting at my puter writing an email or playing a game or just chatting.. and all of a sudden I get that feeling I just described....now WHY??? Why does panic sometimes seem to strike when there is nothing to panic about ..at the time??? That is what baffles me. It just seems to come outta nowhere.
