This is the most disturbing thing in my anxiety. :(

I know about the "lump in throat" sensation, i have it too, but its often more than a lump, it feels like my throat is thinner than before, like its gonna close.

Some days i have also had swallowing problems, nothing solid will go down no matter how i try.

People tell me its psychological but idk... i can feel my throat muscles tighten and loosen up and move about, and when i had bad swallowing probs my throath would kinda "pop" every time i swallowed, like a muscle or a nerve being released from constriction and then going back again. Not surprisingly, taking muscle relaxants has helped this issue some, but not completely.

Can my throat actually close and make me choke? I have heard of laryngeal spasms where the vocal cords close and people cant breathe... this kinda scares me.. apparently nobody has died from it tho, just fainted. Still not very relieving information...

Are my muscles actually tight, or am i imagining it? Or are they tight because i am imagining it?

Hello, have you ever seen a GI specialist to rule out GERD as your sx are some of the same many people have with GERD? Just a suggestion.

Could it be anxiety, yes it could but I would like to see you follow up with GI and then look at therapy for dealing with your anxiety.

We are here to support you. We know where your coming from and what your going through.

Gentle Hugs,

Also I recommend getting your Thyroid checked. Its a simple blood test. When I was hyperthryoid I would frequently choke on my food, and even had an increase in anxiety. Just a thought!

Hey there I have a similar problem like this. I haven't gotten much help, the doctor thought my throat looked red, but I've had this problem for a month so it rules out a virus. The doctors believed I had stomach acid coming up while i slept, actually making my throat a bit raw and making it feel like things were harder to swallow. I don't recall ever feeling something like this happening, but Ive been taking pills before I go to bed to deal with this problem and I've slowly gotten better, perhaps its just mental. I do suffer from a lot of anxiety problems as well.

Get well.
