I have been on Effexor-XR (75mg) for one month where previously I had been on Zoloft (200mg) for a few years. I switched to Effexor because my anxiety seemed to be coming back. Anyway, I'm not comfortable on the Effexor because of everything I have read about it and I would like to go back to my trusty old Zoloft. My question is - how can I wean myself off the Effexor so that I don't get those horrible withdrawals? I'm hoping that because I've only been on it for one month that it might not be that bad...?
I have called my doctor and asked for her opinion but I have to wait for her to get back to me and who knows how long that will take! Does anyone know of a safe way I can decrease my Effexor so that I don't get the withdrawals?

Hey there,

From all I have read here from other members, a slow wean off med is best but as you have said you have only been on it for one month so I would talk to my Doctor and see if you can start the new med while weaning the old one.

Good luck,

I made a switch from Cymbalta to paxil in one day and had no problems. Today I am making the switch from paxil to zoloft so I too am hoping not to have any start up side effects.

Let us know how it is going for you. I hope you don't have any problems.

Blessings, kitkat

Thanks guys. My doctor phoned me back and is going to switch me down to 37.5mg and see how that goes. Hopefully I'll be able to switch to Zoloft after about a week otherwise I'll have to alternate the 75mg with the 37.5mg every other day.

Hi

I was on 225mg Effexor for a year and found the withdrawal awful and I would not go back onto this medication. Sounds like your doctor has given good advice and I hope your change over goes well. Let us know how you get on.

Hey everyone, so it's a few weeks later and I'm back on Zoloft and I feel fine!! I was so, SO, worried about the withdrawal from Effexor because that's all you seem to find on the net but I had just a little fuzzy head for a day or two and that was all.
I'm now on 100mg Zoloft and I hope I can just stay on this without having to increase up to 200mg Zoloft like I used to be on. Anyway, my point is just to get out there that I had an easy switch from Effexor to Zoloft. Hopefully this will help other people if they're searching the net to find out about the withdrawals like I was.
