I hope someone can help me. I have been experiencing severe anxiety and panic attacks since April of 09. I lost my job of 15 years and staryed a new job in October. I sit in my job everyday in fear that I will have an anxiety attack. I really feel like I am losing it. What keeps me going is my beautiful daughter. I have been prescribed lexapro, prozac etc. All these medications do is send my anxiety through the roof. I was prescribed xanax.5 but I do not take it because I am afraid to get addicted. I reall feel at a loss here. I want my life back. I have lost my friends and avoid situations because I fear I am going to have an anxiety attack. I am seeing a therapist on Jan 30th. Can someone give me suggestions as far as medications? I know medications affect everyone diffrently. Also does this panic and anxiety ever subside.

Thanks

Hang in there Sunny, There is no one Rx that helps everyone. if what you are taking isn't working tell your Dr you want to try something different. I also don't want to be hooked on something. I tried about 6 different meds until We found one whose worst side effect is a dry mouth (carry gum or mints) I still have some anxiety but I have been taking these for 19 years and have not had a panic. you can learn to control anxiety through relaxation, there are lots of sites to help you with that. You will have ups and downs, we all do but you can do it. Hang in there.

It's a terrible feeling Sunny. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Sometimes you have to go through several different medications before you find the one that best suits you. Also, it is common for your anxiety to increase when you first start a new med. You have to give it a few weeks.

It's good that you are seeing a therapist. They should help you learn ways to cope. Do you see a psych doctor for your medication? I know many of us love our general doc but they don't really have the experience for combining and changing meds.

Yes, it does get better and it will for you. I am just coming out of a really bad time now and I pray it stays that way. I have also been doing guided meditation that seems to help me relax. I don't do it when it the middle of panic. I wait until I am calmer. Just google guided meditation and several will come up.

Peace to you, kitkat

Hello Sunny and welcome to HealingWell,

You have come to a great place to find support and understanding. The members here are wise and very caring.

I think you have the med that may help you most right now along with your scheduled therapy. Xanax is a great, fast acting medication and I would recommend that you try it and know it will help you until you learn ways to cope with your anxiety.

If you use it as prescribed and under your physician's supervision you should be fine. Do not over think the addiction piece right now.............hopefully you will get a handle on your anxiety and won't need the medication for long.

If you have not used the med yet, try it on a day your not working or in the evening to see how it makes you feel and you can always decrease the dose if you find it to sedating.

Take care and know we are here for you,

Kitt

Thank You for all the feedback. This anxiety makes me feel very alone. My friends and family really do not understand except my mom. She ahs had anxiety issues for 20 yrs now. I will try the xanax this weekend and see what happens.

Take care

Sunny

Sunny I take the lowest dose of Xanax .25 mg and it really helps to stop the anxiety quickly. Do give it a try. I take it about 1-3 times a month now.

Hey all!! I'm 2f years old and have been havin SEVERE CONSTANT anxiety since about july 09. I've had periods of anxiety before but never this bad and never for this long a period of time. I'm at such a loss. Sometimes I feel like I can't sleep I don't wanna eat because when I eat I get anxious. I'm @ the point where sometimes I don't talk about anything but my anxiety. Everyday I feel like today is the day I'm gonna have a heart attack and die. I have sooooo many of the anxiety symptoms its unbelievable... Racing heart, tongue feeling like its swelling, can't sleep or all I wanna do is sleep, body twitching, bad dreams. I. Feel like this is all I ever think about. As I'm writing this now my heart has been somewhat racing @ 96 beats per minute... And I know this because I'm constantly checking my heart rate. I've been to the ER, doctors, cardiologist when I was younger and they all tell me my heart is fine. My doctor gave me xanax .25mg but all it does is make me feel calm but I'm still inside my head thinking so my heart still races. I have a lot of stress and work long hors... I'm not even sure what is causing this. Sometimes when I get anxiety I get a burning in my chest along with the chest pain and racinng heart. Other people have posted that they had the burning sensation and back pains 2 but I'm a nervous wreck. Has anyone hear experienced this?? I've been thinking about daily meds but everyone keeps telling me not to take them. What's should I do?? Can someone give me advice?? Has anyone else had it feel like there heart isracing for hours or get the burning sensation?? PLEASE help!!
