Just a general question, my dr. perscribed me lexapro for anti-anxeity and i haven't taken it yet...I guess I have just been scared to take it because of all the crazy side effects that I experienced while taking other ones...for instance the prozac made the panic worse...(and yes i did wait a month to let it kick in) paxil made me feel crazy and celexa made me sick to my stomach all the time...so i'm scared to take it but want to so i can feel better and feel like a normal person again...it just feels like no one understands but you guys cause you are going through the exact same thing...so let me know guys..If you have taken lexapro how did it affect you?? and what are the side effects? good & bad? Please let me know i need some confidence or something so i can start taking this! lol thanks everyone! :)

Hi, I've been taking lexapro for 3 and a half years now.

I was on Zoloft in the past but it made my anxiety worse. Lexapro has been great for me. When I started on it I was a little dizzy at times for the first couple weeks, and I would get some brain zaps too; mainly after a night of drinking.

My side effects are minimal. If I don't take my meds before 2 pm I start to feel a bit withdrawely, but then I take them and am fine.

If you are very panicky throughout the day, you may want to take the medication in the morning. However if you feel drowsy from the Lexapro; then take it before bed.

I'm just so panicky throughout the day (if i take the lex at night) that I take it in the morning and then I'm great all day.

Not all meds work the same for everyone; but I've had great success with Lexapro.

*HUGS* Good luck

I am not on the med but my sister in law is. She had the similar symptoms Twiggygal did and switched to taking it a bedtime and she felt much better. For some though I have heard it can cause you to get a little wired. So try it first in the a.m. and if you get dizzy or drowsy, then switch it to night, if you get amp'd on it switch/keep it to the a.m. My sister in law suffers with a/p related to PTSD and she is doing amazingly well now. I say give it a chance, maybe this will be the med for you. I use to not like being around my sister in law, but she is like a different person today thanks to Lexapro. Big Hugs!

Hi, I took Lexapro a few years ago and it was fantastic, The first few days I took it in the morning and felt really panicy and odd so I called a friend who was also taking it and they said take it at night, which I did and felt fine after.... One thing though for a bit I would wake up at about 5am needing a poop !! then I was ok again!!

It worked for me, I was really anxious as I had moved to usa from england and was pretty much all alone apart from being with my husband who was racing in the indy cars ....... which made me even more anxious!!!!!!!

Try them .. I cant hurt.

Bill..I believe you have been on many forums saying that Lexapro is 'great for young people'.  No SSRI is recommeded for teens or young adults.  If I am mistaken, I'm sorry, but your post is very familiar and is showing up on other sites, including withdrawl forums.

I take Lexapro. I had to work up to the 10mg dose. I started at 5mg and it helped ease some of the side effects. I took it in the evening, as it made me sleepy and a bit dizzy. I also take klonopin for anxiety/sleep. After about a month I could feel it kick in and I felt great. I then moved to 7.5 and up to 10 recently. I moved up as I dropped down my klonopin and has help me avoid a lot of the withdrawal symptoms that go along w/that drug. I say go for it but work your way up if its ok w/your Dr.

I've been taking lexapro for a few months and only had side effects the first week. I was a little dizy and out of it for a day or two. Once I got used to it I haven't had any problems. I started to take it at night though so if there were any side effects they would occur when I was asleep.

I tried lexapro for a week and had too many side effects. I felt wierd and kind of sick. I had to stop taking it. Im now on Zoloft.

You should try it. The key is trying different meds until you find one that works for you.

Im Bipolar with anxiety.

Hi

I take lexapro and have found it to be one of the better antidepressants I have tried and take mine in the morning and did not get many side effects. Lexapro (escitalopram) is one of the stronger ssri's and works well for people with anxiety. I would say give it a go, I wish you the best.

I only began to take medication when my body was shutting down. I was extremely worried about taking Lexapro and the first night I took it I panicked and ended up in hospital. I guess I ignored other such panic attacks and stress points in work thinking it was normal. I made many lifestyle changes for the better and yet the anxiety and my depression got worse. I now fully believe it's a combination of help that is required, family, friends, doctors and a therapist. Work to get your body in good condition by eating regularly and ensuring you know how to relax yourself through breathing techniques. If you choose to read about your body and mind take it slowly as you'll find out that when you ensure your body relaxes you will not feel as much physical pain with each thought. Thoughts are powerful but when backed up with emotion it can seem overpowering and a sense of losing control is felt. Think positive, be kind to yourself, we are good people but only through calmness will we see this.
