confused Hello members and fellow anxiety-panic members.I was doing so good for 7 years.I am a recovering alcoholic (03/26/02)sobriety date.I had a panic attack acouple of times prior to getting sober.after that all was goog up until last nov. now i feel that its anxiety because i feel tightness in my chest sick to my stomach shortness of breath and now also it seems that when i look at stuff it seems like i am not really dizzy but not right, maybe feeling of slight light sensitivity but not really maybe out of reallity if this makes sense.plus it seems to go on and of all day. i had a ekg done normal and then i got scoped and ph tested for acid reflux  ,normal but i do have a hyatal hernia.but the doctor says maybe anxiety is clashing with gerd and both are causing one another so has anyone else experience this ?Thanks!

I have GERD and it sometimes triggers my anxiety..i get a tightness in my chest i swallow uncontrollably lie something is blocking my airway and it literally causes me to panic thinking its my heart or my lungs then in turn im in panic mode.. i get that too its almost like i begin to hyperventilate.. you almost feel like your in there but someone else is driving.. soo understand.. i have xanax that treats my anxiety but i rarely take it unless needed... i started lexapro and im hoping it kicks in soon.. i would try antidepressants for the anxiety before the xanax since xanax is habit forming

congrats on your sobriety that is something to be very proud of...

Congrats on your sobriety..i am also a sober alcoholic..have been since March 17th 1979...you should be very proud you have come so far...i dont hv gerd but i do get to point still where i feel chest is going to explode and my body feels the anxiety right thru...i recently had a long stay in hospital but am recovering nicely..i still have days where i feel i am on the outside looking in and it seems so surreal at times..you hv been numbing yourself n senses with the booze in past and perhaps now because you are sober things hit you differently ya know...im sure not an expert but i know my senses got way way out of kilter when booze was gone from life..i know others here suffer fom gerd and there is a forum as well ..i just wanted to welcome you and let you know i do get the sobriety part ..one day at a time...keep us posted kk

Welcome to HealingWell and the A & P Forum. Congratulations on your sobriety, be sure to celebrate all your good times.

If indeed you do have GERD did the Doctors start you on any medications ?

Also we have a GERD/Heartburn Forum so please do feel free to post in that forum if you are comfortable. The group of people in that forum know GERD frontwards and backwards.

Gentle Hugs to you,

Kitt

Yep, I have both GERD and anxiety, and they both play havoc with one another at times. One can cause/reinforce the other.

Thank you to everyone.Alot of people just dont seem to understand how bad it really gets to you,I am glad that i found this site its nice to hear from people that can relate to each other when you need to get it off your chest. i am afraid to travel far because of the feelings i get when i drive but i seem to have a safe route to and from work its weird because i seem to pre plan what i will do if it gets bad.I will keep checking in every day. Thanks again to all that replied.wink

Welcome to healingwell, Johnny. :)

I get the unreal feelings ALOT with my anxiety, as well as dizziness. I have been doing very well with my anxiety lately, however. Maybe try to CBT.

:)

I really hope things start going better for you and I hope to see you around on here :)
