I don't know how long it's been since this subject has been brought up on this board, so I thought I'd share it again for ones unfamiliar with this topic.
Artificial sweeteners such as Splenda (sucralose) and Equal (aspartame) can be unhealthy, even dangerous for some people. Some side effects from these are anxiety and depression and panic attacks amongst many others. My sister can't drink over one small glass of tea with splenda in it or she gets a bad headache. I've found that when I use lots of either of these, my anxiety level tends to get bad. Now there's a lot of controversy over these products, but you should educate yourself and then decide if these are something you'd be better off without. I am diabetic and I try to avoid them except for an occassional diet soda.
If you need to avoid sugar, honey, or fructose, and other sugars for weight issues or diabetes, you might consider STEVIA. It is a sweetener made from the stevia plant. It is natural and non-caloric. You can buy it in packets just like you do artificial sweeteners and it's a whole lot better for you! I use it everyday in my tea...and I drink a LOT of iced tea!
You can find STEVIA at many big grocery stores now as well as health food stores. It is priced comparably with the bad stuff too! You don't have to be rich to use it (thankfully!)
Here are a few links for you to check out and of course, anyone can google the subject for more info on any of these!
Whatever you think in regards to these products, good or bad, please just make sure that you base your choice on knowledge. Many folks use these products for a long time and seem to suffer no bad effects from them. Maybe they really don't...but then again, maybe some of their problems are related to the use of these products and they just don't realize it!
I wish everyone the best of health, mentally, emotionally, and physically! yeah
