Good Morning Hazel,

Have you talked with your physician re the neck pain ?  Because there are so many reasons for neck pain, it is very important that your  physician do a very careful history and physical exam to determine the cause of your pain.

Yep, I too carry my tension in my neck, and get the resulting headache. I can be doing some mundane task, like peparing food, and I realize that my shoulders are nearly touching my ears! I have to consciously relax. It is as if my body's natural state is tense. Try practicing some progressive muscle relaxation. Keep up on the exercises that the doc gave you too. Also, if possible, try strenghtening the supportive muscles (traps, lats, pectorals) with light weight resistance.

Have you been tested for lyme disease?  Neck stiffness/pain and anxiety were some of my first symptoms of lyme.  Also, you may want to try magnesium.  It helps relax and sometimes deficiency causes muscle tightness.
