For the longest time, I have been in touch by email with an ear specialist who is also a neurologist in Phoenix AZ.

He recently had my local Dr. to run tests to try to see why my anxiety can be so acute sometimes.

The results showed a low DHEA of only 59 when they should read 200 to 250.

He recommended 25mg. of DHEA daily.

I feel like a major breakthrough was made by his having those labs done.
It was a pity however, that my naive Dr. and staff just didn't "get it".  The day the p.a. read me the results, he said everything was "normal".

There is no way of knowing how many years this has been abnormally low, nor how much good taking DHEA can help.

My advice to anyone here suffering from panic/anxiety, demand your Dr. run tests for DHEA levels.  If it is low like mine was, you may have solved a big puzzle!

Hey There,
Which lab did you have run,  the DHEA Sulfate or DHEA ?  Also was it reported in SI Units (The International System of Units) or US Units ?

What is the treatment for your reading ?  I am glad you found an answer to part of your anxiety problem.  :)

Kindly,
Kitt

Hello Kitt,

I don't know what "language" the readings were, but he recommended 25mg. daily of DHEA. I want to talk with my main Dr., run all this by him before jumping into some kind of stuff I've never heard of. I feel it would be safer that way since this Dr. in AZ has never even seen me. I do hope that will help if he okays this.

I think you are very wise in talking to your own PCP re this and I hope that the DHEA helps you.  You deserve to feel better.  Keep us posted.

I just recalled he tested for the DHEA sulfate, Kitt.  I don't know which units it was read it in but I could email him and find out.

Well, he just blew his royal stack at me, and read me off.

I won't be following through with his cockeyed suggestions now at all!

Sound like he was, perhaps, a snake oil salesman.  Sorry to hear he blew up at you -  hope you stick with us.

Kindly,

I will stick like glue! :-)

The guy has never seen me, but has been so helpful. I asked him a simple question, and he went into a tirade and told me not to email him on Sunday with questions anymore. All he has to do is ignore the email til Monday! Jerk.

I was considering taking the HDEA, but now, I'm not so sure. I will run it all by my own Dr's p.a. tomorrow, and if there is any doubt it might cause problems, no dice.

Hugs,
panicman
