I have discovered a lump underneath my jaw towards the right side. I can be a bit of a hyperchondriac at times but I am worried as to what it could be. It is slippery when I touch it, it tends to move around. It is also hard to find when I am trying to show people where it is. I am definitely going to go to the doctors about this. I had my wisdom teeth taken out a few months ago I don't know if it has anything to do with that. Just wondering what you guys think it could be?

Hi and welcome! I have been worried over those little guys before too. Rest assured though that it is probably one that is simply doing it's job....fighting off a small/local infection or a virus.

Lymph nodes under the chin can indeed be a result of an infection of the mouth (teeth or gums) so going to your doctor and dentist is a great idea. Some people have even had a lymph node swell due to cystic acne, so if you have any signifigant blemishes, these could be the cause.

I even had a big node behind my ear swell once as the result of an allergy to hair color! Even after the allergen/infection/virus is cleared up, it may take up to a few weeks for the nodes to go down to normal size.

Again, try not to worry, and go consult your dr, so you will feel better.

Welcome, and post anytime:)

I too have a small lump on my face. It is on the right side, near my ear. It's been there ever since I was a kid. It's probably nothing but perhaps i should get it removed or checked out... I also have a lump somewhere else on my body (but it's probably against forum rules to name that part of the body), and an ultrasound revealed it was nothing but a lump. A "vesicle" that formed when I was a fetus.

Thanks guys. I did go to the doctor, he said he thinks it's my salivitory gland. It may be blocked or he thinks I have an infection. He said to wait a week to see if it goes away before investigating what's going on. It is still there so I'm guessing I will be getting a blood test on thursday! He said it's nothing bad because cancerous lumps don't hurt and mine does. Will let you know what happens x

I just found one under my jaw towards the right a few days ago. I smoke but not heavily. I'd love to hear what the docs diagnosis was. After I had smoked a cigarette today, it seemed to get bigger!?
