Debilitating Anxiety

I have suffered from anxiety for a long time. I have taken meds in the past but they make me numb and not myself at all. I have severe panic disorder with constant thought of doom and death. I check my heart rate constantly throughout the day worried of a heart attack or stroke. I am 29 years old have had a lot of stress in the last year and am suffering through an attack now. I am happy to have found this forum for support!

Been there with the checking the pulse and heart thing it is so scary and just makes the anxiety worse.. I have taken meds for 10 years and will prob have to the rest of my life.

So sorry you feel this way I also have severe anxiety. In my twenties is when it peaked for me it never has gone away  but for many years  I felt okay and I didn't let it  control me.  I am in my 40s now and I am having a rough time have a lot of stress in my life. The anxiety is real bad right now but I have to be strong and I know it will get better. I hope you get some relief from this horrible monster don't let it win. Feel better soon

I have been where you are and there are times yet when I get tossed back into those same feelings of doom and "what if?" thinking.  Anxiety can cause persistent and uncontrolable nervousness, stess, and worry that is triggered by anticipation of future events, memories of past events or ruminations over day-to-day events both trivial and major. 
 
Like you when I have these intense feelings it intrupts my daily life. 
 
My therapist helped me understand while we are worrying about dying, we are not living.
 
Do check out our resource thread at the top of this page and you will find many help ways to learn how to beat anxiety.  CBT is extremely helpful.  Remember you are not alone as we are here to support you.
