Coping skills, relaxation techniques, excercise, supplements for anxiety?

I am in mid 40s. I have experienced anxiety 4 times in my life that was long term 1) when I was a teenager our car was hit by a bus, I did not want to ride/like riding in vehicles for a couple of months(just got over it) 2) choked when I was a teenager-worried excessively about choking for about 6 months went to a counselor but it just went away
3) mid 30s kept feeling like something was stuck in my throat after going to several specialists they convinced me it was anxiety so I took the meds/counselor nothing helped until they did a ph test revealing I needed stomach surgery went off meds and did not look back for 8 years 4) Recently I felt anxious/depressed and tightness/lump throat. This time it was different anxiety came first. I was checked out throughly and know it is in my head for the most part( I do have severe post nasal that will give me a lump in throat if not treated). I have went to a counselor, excercise regularly, no caffeine, started on lexapro.

I have read a lot of posts that talk about coping skills, supplements/vitamans, relaxation techniques.

Where do you learn about coping skills and relaxation techniques? In all the counseling I got a stress ball and talking. No talking about excercise or relaxation. Basically, I feel decent now but I want to feel like myself and don't mind putting in the work. Any inputs would be awesome. Thanks

Hi t331,

Unfortunately a lot of therapists are still focusing solely on talk therapy, while other more interactive techniques have been proven so beneficial.

Finding a practitioner who specializes in CBT and Mindfullness would be a good goal. Here you will be taught new ways of thinking, thus making changes to how you feel.

For now, be sure you have explore our Resources at the top of the main forum page here for great material. You'll find Therapy Worksheets, a link on how to use Positive Mantras, Stress Relieving Exercises, Meditation Videos and more.

Thanks! I am learning so much activating/non activating SSRIs. I did not even know what CBT meant. Lol. Thanks so much for the help and this forum!
