Hi everyone,

I've had panic disorder for 17 years, and until recently have not experienced much in the way of stomach problems.  The last few months, I've had alot of pressure in my stomach, my skin feels tight there, and my stomach is very hard.  There is sometimes a little bit of a gnawing feeling, but mostly it's the intense pressure.  Since I've never experienced this with my panic, I'm not sure that it is a syptom of panic and of course am terrifying myself with thoughts of something being horribly wrong with me.  I've started having extreme panic attacks because I'm so worried.  Has anyone else experienced this?  Is this something else related to panic/anxiety?

Thank you,
Junebug05

Welcome to HW .....you have definitely come to the best place for support IMO and the peeps are fantastic too
Yes I do get extreme problems with tummy over my A/P ( I also have crohns ) and this is made worse by my anxiety
Just these last couple of days I have had my tummy so bloated and hard it looked like I was ready to give birth .......
I have always had A/P but only last couple of yrs been dx with th crohns
Have you shared any of this with you doc and has he /she seen tummy when like this
There are some tests you can get done that are not as invasive as a colonoscopy and perhaps you my need to get some testing done
A/P can and will play havoc with your body causing all kinds of physical problems and they are real not in our head .......
Please do talk to your doc about this as it could very well be something
I am not saying positivily that it is but better to find out right .......
Glad to have you aboard post often and get to know us and we you
God Bless
Lyn

Lyn,

Thank you so much for your reply.  It does help to know that I am not alone in this mess, though I would not wish it on my worst enemy!  I'm trying to calm down about my stomach issues and it has been better today.  It's funny how I know what is causing the problems, but sometimes I just can't keep on top of the negative thoughts which just run away with me.  I too have had the bloating so badly that I felt pregnant, and I do hope that yours is better today!

Love,

Junebug05

I have what seem to be similar symptoms and a gastrointerologist recently told me the episodes could be modified panic attacks.

Click on my name and read through some of the posts I've made on this forum. It sounds like we may be going through the same type of thing.

Howlyncat,
Thank you for asking...for the most part it's better, though there are still days that it bothers me.  I'm still worried about not being able to eat, so naseuous (sp.?) and looking at or smelling food makes me gag.  I'm living on ovaltine mixed with warm milk and any little bites of food I can get down during the day...always something isn't it.  Hope your tummy gets better very soon!

Debaser,  I think I replied to a post of yours either yesterday or the day before about your tummy troubles, and yes I agree that what we are going through does sound very similar.  Mine does come and go and most definitely gets worse when the anxiety does.  I'm trying to accept it as only anxiety and not get so scared of it...not always easy.  Hope you feel better soon!

Alwaysanxious,  I agree with you...Claire Weekes books are great.  I have lost track of the number of times I have read them!

Wednesday,  I'm interested in the enzyme pills you mentioned...could you tell me where to find such a thing?  I do have bouts of constipation and I'd be very willing to give this a try...thanks for letting me know.

Thank you all for replying, it sure helps to have the support here.

JuneBug, I'm going through exactly the same thing!!!!! Panic/anxiety for 14 years now and just started getting awful stomach pains that landed me in hospital.  My tummy felt hard and crampy and gassy and I thought I had cancer for sure!! I was diagnosed with IBS and told to stay away from caffiene and dairy.  They also gave me some anti-spasmodic meds & valium to help with the cramping.  None of it made much difference except the valium....Until I saw a naturopath who put me on "intestamine" three days ago.  I feel soooo much better.  Not cured but less pain for sure.  You could look in your health food store for it.  The brand is "bio-ceuticals".  I hope this can help you.  I'm feeling hope for the first time in a month.  Best of luck (I can really empathise).
