Yes, Lanka.....I get awful anxiety before my period.  I go a bit psycho and cry and throw things too...lol!!!  I think the best thing is to be AWARE that it's coming and have help on hand (ie medication for me and body armour for everyone else!!)

Hormones AAAAH! Did you know that emotions are controlled by hormones? I just found that out recently. It therefore stands to reason that fear (an emotion) can be aggravated by the fluctuating hormones of our cycles. That is not to say that p.m.s causes anxiety, but it can certainly make it worse! At least you have a reliant warning system. The week b-4 your period try getting plenty of exercise, eat well and do your breathing and relaxation practices. Hope that you "have a good month!"

Take care,

Oh lordy, a big YES! -- And I always forget and then get even more anxious about the fact that I'm anxious and tearful ... then "Aunt Flo" arrives and the penny drops! lol I think most women get some sort of change in mood before their period (or during) -- the old stereotype is "angry woman", but most people I know (with and without anxiety) get more unsettled and low than angry.

*runs around screaming in circles*

Yes last night I had full on panic till I went to bed. I slept all night because I was mentally exhausted and as soon as I opened my eyes there the panic monster was again waiting to start.

I'm due any day now and have always had bad pms but this year it's coming out in major anxiety. Also as the hormones flucuate during the month it happens to me as well. I've been doing some research and the perimenopause time (35 to 45) is a great time when everything gets worse. It kind of explains things I'm 37.

Anyway I got up and took 5mg of valium, I want a life and I'm sick of being so scared as my doctor would tell me...If you need the valium take it and take it regulary over those times.

Rotten hormones mad

no we should not feel any shame in this, its normal.....i did get a hormone from my doc to take the week before i start, so now, if i remember that i have it and to take it, it does help bunches, but im so tired of meds for everything, right now i have 10 bottles of meds in my purse(from klonies to two diff anitbiotics still), im not old enough for this :( i so want to feel normal without all this stuff........grrrr

For lack of a better word I am a crazy person before my period. Just this past week  i wanted to divorce my husband of ten years for being grouchy and I was serious. I also get physical symptoms of anxiety, my heart pounds, I get palpitaions a lot more, headaches etc. I cry all the time, one day I hate everyone the next day I love them so much I don't want to go to work and be away from them. So to answer you question, yes my anxiety and P/A is absolutely worse around this time.

What us women go through...YUK...Yes my anxiety heightens usually the first day and last day of my monthlys...It is usually in the middle of the night that a panic attack will hit and wakes me up...I seem to sweat more around this particular time also at night....And of late my mood changes dramatically also... And i mean dramatically... I go from being miss nice to miss nasty...

I have to agree with the fact of anxiety before or during your pcycle. I have anxiety but, I am 38yrs old and last yr seems to notice the change in my anxiety 3-4 days before my pcycle. but I get ancouse(?) anxiety with sleepless nights. I hate those. I get very irritable and the funny thing is I can be normal and the next just down rite irritable. Not realy nasty just irritable just like leave me alone for a week and dont talk to me.. I would love to go and hide but, I can't.

Oh well life does go on no matter what we do. So, In my exercise I just learn to deal with it and find something to occupy my time.

My anxiety definitely worsens around the time of my period!! In fact, when I initially begin having A/P, it was at first diagnosed as a really bad case of PMS.

My doctor has suggested exercising even more than I normally do when I am due for my period, and even upping my Zoloft a little bit the week before. It amazes me how I can feel pretty "normal" until I become premenstrual, and then the anxiety continues until my period is over.  I am 47, so I guess I am right in that age bracket when my hormones are really getting out of whack- I am trying to remind myself of this and to try to "go with the flow" (no pun intended!! :-) ), but sometimes I am so miserable that it is hard to do this!!

I have regular anxiety, which comes and goes whenever it pleases, and 99% of the time it is at night, I'll have to sit up, my entire body will shake I feel as if I'm going to be sick its terrible to say the least. But lately I feel anxiety even during the day! it wont last long thank god. I find breathing and doing something to get your mind off of it to bed the best medication.

Wow! Obviously everyone can relate to this. Yes, I've always had anxiety one to two weeks before my period begins. Also, I'm peri-menopausal and the anxiety is worse. The thing that has gotten a lot worse is the heart palpitations. My mom had the same thing. Anyway, once you know what's causing the anxiety it sometimes makes it easier.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.  I honestly for the last yr have been thinking I could be crazy and that I was the only one who gets these paranoia, anxiety stress attacks.  My mom kept telling me it was my period but I just couldn't believe it fully.  What a relief! smurf

This happens also to me.  I notice when just before I start, I feel I am crawling out of my skin.  I become very mean and agitated and I cry much.  I also notice that after a few days those symptoms subside some, but then I feel very exhausted, like I run 10 miles.

Hey. I really agree with all of these posts. I suffer with anxiety at the best of times, so PMS only makes mine worse. I look at my calander and realise it's a week before or something and it suddenly makes sense why i feel so awful! It's one of the worse things, i get awful anxiety with it...sometimes panic attacks and when it begins i just don't want to leave the house, especially my bed! I sympathise with every woman out there who suffers with PMS - if there would be any reason why i would rather be a man it would be to get away from PMS!!
