All you guys were so commending of me...you know, how I was doing so much better....well, today wasn't so good. My anxiety was shadowing me when I awoke. Then I heard my mom in the living room talking to someone and my cockatiel, Peeper, was peeping his lungs out! Well, I'm laying in bed, hating to get up and face the day. Suddenly Mom bursts into my room all upset with a paper in her hand. Turns out that our apartments are going to be getting carpet in a few weeks. This is NOT good by any means. We live in subsidized housing and they do the absolute cheapest job they can. I've seen the carpet in one of the other complexes. UGLIER than a baboon's butt! It is the indoor/outdoor carpet and is so thin-no padding. No pile to it AT ALL. The color is chewing tobacco spittle. I am NOT exaggerating. I wish I were! But the main reason mom's upset is cuz she is a very clean person-has OCD traits. Everytime anyone comes in our apartment with their shoes on, she mops the floors when they leave. Whether you're a fan of carpetting or not, it has to be admitted that you just can't get it as clean as you can a tile floor! So Mom is all upset, mad, crying, ranting, raving about it and there I was feeling like all I wanted to do was take several xanax and leave earth for a while! But I only took the one .5mg as instructed. I have no appetite and everything I do manage to eat comes out the other end. I think it's the IBS. Sigh! I am still sick with this chest cold. Mom was all *****y cuz of being in a bad mood about the carpet and said that I needed to make an appt. with the doctor cuz "this is getting old"! She thought I was getting sick to my stomach cuz of the cold, but it was cuz of anxious stomach and being so empty from diarreah. I made an appt. but will cancel it in the a.m. I am gonna wait til after the weekend to see if this coughing subsides more. I hate to go to doc!!! Also, I'm s'posed to go to pdoc on 10/12. Y'all I am hoping SO bad that he will be able to help me more with the anxiety. I feel okay for a few days, then I start to "sink". Then I get better and sink again. It's a vicious cycle and it keeps me feeling haunted by the fear all the time. If I understood the pdoc correctly last time, he has no plans on upping my paxil cr from 12.5 mg. I bet he'll want to cut down the zoloft more though and so I'm scared about that as well.
BTW, has anyone heard of this before: my pdoc put me on zantac 300mg 2x a day to see if it would help me lose weight. (Zantac is an antacid type-med). It hasn't made the pounds come off of me sad to say! He said that he'd learned that little weight loss trick from other pdocs that had observed their patients often started losing weight after going on zantac. I think I won't take any more of it for now. Maybe it's causing the diarreah? Or it just be the IBS...who knows? I sure can't say!!
I just want to be back to feeling normal again, for longer than a few days at a time. sad
Love You All,

Oh Janetlee so sorry to hear that you are feeling yucky! I know exactly how you feel when you say "I am feeling haunted by the fear all the time" I used to feel that way too, and it is misery. I hope that your pdoc can give you some help/comfort @ your appnt. I have had good luck with the zantac. I don't think that it causes diarreah, it didn't for me, nor have I ever heard it used as a weight loss drug. You will be in my prayers, both for your physical discomforts and your anxiety related troubles.

Feel better soon

thanks all.
I'm feeling really very tired...mentally, emotionally, and physically. I went and got some acidophilous "pearls" today. I saw where meds like zantac can cause you to get bacterial infection cuz of stomach acids not being as strong to kill off bad stuff. I hope the acidophilous will help.

Hi Janet,

I have REALLY bad GERD, and I was on Zantac for years. I am on Prevacid now, as my primary doc years ago thought I had become allergic to it (after a breathing episode... maybe an early sign of panic attacks to come?). If you don't have GERD or acid problems, I can see where Zantac may not be so good for you, and the dose is pretty high. I think I took 150mg once a day. I have never heard of it as a weight loss med, but it might not be right for you if you are having gastro problems that you didn't have before. I'm sorry you are going through so much stress, as if you didn't already have plenty. As for the carpet.... I guess there's not much you can do about that unless you luck out and they change the color choice. I suppose it wouldn't hurt for you to give the management your opinion about it. I find it odd that they are choosing such an odd color, as apartments usually go with a neutral beige color. Very strange. Just remember... it's just flooring, and not worth making yourself sick over. ((((((((Big Hugs))))))))) coming your way, and I hope you start feeling better.

(((Janet)))

After years of living in rented flats and houseshares, I can only offer sympathy on the carpet front and tell you "I've been there!". (Current landlord has showed much more taste with the carpets and laminate flooring, but I still long for the day I can have tiles and wood floors and know I'm not walking around on a dirt trap!) Yeah, might be worth asking the management, but we all know that's a long-shot. Is the carpet patterned or plain? If it's plain (or mottled-effect) then there's always some hope: I have a theory that even the most unpromising colours work if you can match them up with another colour that looks nice with them. That may be me being overly optimistic, but, after so much renting, I've managed to make some pretty grim carpets slip into the background or look more normal this way. Do you get paint swatches in the US -- preferably the strips of paper with lots of colours from the same group together? You could get a load for your mum and have her start thinking about what colours might work with the new carpet, and then make a point of buying or making a few bits and bobs (like cushion covers). Might help her see it more like a challenge (or even a game!) than a disaster.

As for the Zantac, yes, I think if you don't actually need it to keep acid reflux, etc, under control, it's best avoided as (exactly as you say) it can make your stomach too alkaline so that you'r not digesting food properly -- may link to the theory that you can lose weight on it -- though I think probably rather unwise to try it this way, and I wish your doc had thought a bit more: if you nedd a certain med anyway and it helps with weight as an added bonus, great, but if the med that is for a specific condition is only being taken on the chance that it might help with the weight, that's not a great plan! Maybe it does work for some... I dunno. But I think there are better ways of doing this (or even more targetted meds for helping you do this).

More hugs (((Janet)))
