I'm new here and I've never posted on this kind of website before and I'm a little nervous about doing so, but everyone here seems to be supporting and all and I thought it might be good to talk to someone for a change. I haven't actually been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder because I'm afraid to go to the doctors or even to bring the subject up with my parents so that they might let me go to the doctors. I'm almost sure I have one though. I've had problems with anxiety for as long as I can remember, especially in school. I would get sick almost every morning for like 2 whole years in elementary school until I finally learned to control it a little. But I still feel like I have to fight with myself every morning to get myself to relax enough that I don't get sick. I try to talk to my friends about it and hope they might understand and be able to help me, but of course they can't help. I've always been the quiet person in school because of always being so nervous. I've just been getting really tired of dealing with all of this the past year or so and I thought maybe someone here might be able to give me advice or something .. or at least can help me see that I'm not the only one with these problems.

Hi sincerity and welcome! You are so NOT alone in this! We know exactly how you feel, and are here for help and support. I too was very frightened to go to the doctor about my anxiety. It was very hard and I had to make myself go, but once I did - what a relief!!! My doctor was so nice about it, and then I could start getting help. I chose to try therapy first and it has completely changed my life! Other people use medication to help their symptoms, and some choose to do both. Whatever you and your parents decide to do, it will help you regain your strength, energy and well being. You deserve to feel well, not scared and sick! Please talk to your parents and get the help that you need. Let us know how this turns out for you.

Take Care

Thanks for the advice and support.
But other than going to the doctor, what are some things I can do to help deal with anxiety?

Hi sincerity, yes you are definately not alone, i have suffered with anxiety for eight years,it has been a long road for me to try and get my anxiety under control, but believe me it can be done...If you are not wanting to go to the doctors, which i believe that you should just to help confirm your anxiety, and im sure that your parents would like to know if you are going through any sort of trouble, as im also sure that they would help you through this out of their love for you, try getting a hold of some books that may assist you with understanding and overcoming anxiety... The more you know about it the easier it becomes to deal with...Learn some relaxation techniques, listen to relaxation music, and practice some deep breathing excercises when you start to feel anxious...Eat well, try to avoid anything with caffeine, excercise, change the way you think EG...Turn negative thoughts into positive which i know can be hard to do sometimes...And take better care of your body... Here are just a few pointers that help me on my path of anxiety... I would also like to say welcome, and know that there are people who understand what it is that you are going through in here... Take care, wishing you better days ahead... :)

Hi Sincerity,

Welcome to HW were so happy you have found us here. You have already recived some great advice here and here are some things I try to keep my anxiety under control. I see a counsler once a week and that was one of the hardest things I had to do besides going to the dr. and taking meds.

I have learned to watch my body motions, breathing, and thoughts. You will quickly learn the signs and it sounds like you have already learned some from getting sick in the mornings and getting it under the control. Listen to your body, take deep breaths when you feel your heart starting to pound, try to focus on anything when your mind starts to run wild, very hot soaking baths will do wonders to relax you too.

I agree with the other members you need to talk to your parents and to some that is very hard to do but as a parent I would rather my sons come to me with a problem then to feel thay had to handel it alone. If it would be easier bring your mom or dad here and let them read these post to break the ice. You are doing great you have realized you have something wrong and are trying to get help so don't give up till you find what you need for you.

You are in my prayers and please keep posting and you are welcome to come to chat anytime. If there is no one in anxiety chat you can go to any room there to talk.
(((HUGS)))

hey sincerity, welcome to HW! You have gotten great input, so ill just keep it to WELCOME. ok well i changed me mind, can i ask how old you are??? Im so sorry that you have had to deal with this alone for so long, i dont know your parents, but if i was my child i would want to know and help them in any way that i could. Im sure they love you, and please dont be ashamed of this, its a horrible thing, but it can be beaten. I wish you the best, and hope you can do this without meds, but a doc would sure help.....he can give you many pointers on relaxation techniques. Meditation helps me alot, and breathing exercises. Take care and let us know how you are doing.

hey shell,
I'm 17 since u were wondering.

And I mean, I've delt with this all my life and I've been relatively ok .. I can control it for the most part. But even when I'm not extremely nervous, I'm still nervous. I almost dont know what it's like to not be nervous.. The thing that annoys me most about it now honestly is that it makes me be shy around anyone that I dont know very well .. I've always been known as the quiet person in school b/c a lot of times I'm just afraid to say anything. And it makes me feel like I'm missing out on some part of high school because I cant be more social. So I need to work on that as well as staying relaxed in the mornings and all.
