can anxiety & panic attacks be completely cured?
ive always wounderd, because when i started having mine i asked my dad if he knew what was rong with me. He said yes because he used to have them years ago. but he got over them he said.. no medication or anything like that. but im not sure how long he had them for. ive had them for over a year and a half but i cant see me just getting over them. im on no medication either...

and is it true that anxiety is full of mixed emotions and that if your angry you dont feel anxiety? '' i read it somewhere lol ''

Hi Spenty,

Welcome to HW were happy you found us here. I'm no expert on this but yes I have heard of people beating anxiety and depression with and without meds. Me personally I'm on meds and see a counsler to get me thru mine.

Yes it's true that anxiety is full of mixed emotions rushing in all at once but even if I'm angry I still feel anxiety and usually makes the anxiety worse. Hope this helps.

Hi spenty,
I had anxiety and panic attacks for over 30 years. In that time I had various medications, occasional therapy and very little else in my life.  The drugs helped to reduce it, while I was taking them, but they were never expected to cure it.  So eventually I stopped taking them, found the problem and worked on curing myself.

I have not had any problems for 11 years now.  I no longer get unduly anxious and never panicky.

Anger is an emotion that is constant in anxiety although it does work as a distraction sometimes.

So yes it is completely curable, and no anger does not help it.

Hi spenty,
I feel the same way MsKittie does. Anger sends me right into panic mode. People have been cured from anxiety both ways: with and without meds. Remember that what works for one person does not always work for another. Are you seeing a therapist? If you are trying to avoid medications for the time being, you may want to get a therapist. S/he will teach you how to deal with the anxiety and hopefully try to get to the root of it.

thinking maybe this willl calm me down when sleeping as i sometimes wake up thinking i cannot breath.

Spenty:

I don't know if it can be completely cured. I've had mine for almost 13 years. I'm past the stages that i see some on the board going through. I usually don't get full blown panic attacks anymore (knock on wood), but I have never returned back to "normal". I still dread them.

I guess it also depends on how bad the anxiety is. When i was first diagnosed, my doc said it is not cureable but will become more manageable. I feel alot better now than i did in the first 5 years that i had it but it's still not completely gone.

Oh, and I pretty much have gone through these past 13 years without anti-depressants and only occasional Klonopin.
