Really nice guy assessed me today - was a bit worried at first as I was expecting a woman (I should stop stereotyping people!)

So I have Anxiety and Panic Disorder and Depression , he thinks I might be bipolar but we can't be sure yet as the 'highs' I feel might be a 'normal' to other people and might just feel high to me because I've been low for so many years.

He said that I had a problem with alcohol and has given me some info to help me cut down but he said he didn't think I was an alcoholic and that I was self medicating because of the disorders.

I am now on the waiting list for therapy (CBT & counselling I think) and he said he may suggest some medication later down the line to treat both A/P and depression.

I came away from there with a really positive attitude and have even written up an 'action plan' to follow to keep me from getting low.

I was thinking about starting on vitamins - any idea what would suit me best?

Thanks to everyone here - especially you Mods (great job guys) for being there for me , you've helped me so much :-)

Smiler-

I don't know a whole bunch on vitamins, but have heard that St. John's Wort, B12 and something else. I can't remember work well. I will look it up in my handy, dandy meds and vitamin book and get back to you a bit later. OK?

Thanks Chelle :-) Does St johns wort interfere with contraception - I have a contraceptive implant in my arm - or is that just the pill?

Hi Smiler

I'm happy to hear you had a great appointment, and staying postive is half the battle. I wish you luck with CBT. Valerian is good for anxiety, and the product B-calmed is supposed to help allot. Sorry can't remember any others right now. I'm sure lots of others will have some suggestions for you. Have a great day.

Yay! Im very happy for you! Good luck with the cutting down on the drinking. I had a bad drinking problem last year. It got really bad towards the end. But when I drank I wasnt panicing so I drank a lot. But I noticed the more i drank, the next day I would have THE WORST panic attacks. I mean horrible. Thinking I was going to just drop dead. So I finally gave up the drinking, havent had a drink since February almost a year now. Im not going to lie to you the first couple weeks I went without was very hard and my anxiety was through the roof, but after that I felt 100 times better. I mean I still have anxiety all the time and panic a lot of the time, but i feel all around a lot healthier. Its such a struggle to stop so you have all my best wishes on that! Im really happy you found someone you like that seems to really want to help you! You'll see things will start getting better. ((Hugs))

Thanks everyone tongue

I'm not actually giving up alcohol as he didn't think I was addicted , that I was using it to calm me (which was wrong) and I was using it too much i.e. a couple of drinks everyday , and getting drunk about three times a week skull

This is my third day sober and I haven't had any symptoms :-) I'm also alot calmer (probably because I'm not worried about waking up with a headache/bad tummy LOL!) I have also started exercising , cut out sugar , doing breathing and positive thinking which I think is helping me.

He told me to have two alcohol free days a week , but I've decided to have five and on the other two I will drink (IF I feel like it and NOT because I am panicky or stressed) and I have vowed to myself NOT to get drunk nono

The only problem with cutting out sugar is I didn't have many trick or treaters so I have a large bowl of chocolate and candy and only one child! I can't even give them to the children at her school because we are banned from taking sweets to school!  eyes  * passes bowl round HW forum * Anyone? LOL! :-)
