welcome to healingwell! If anything has helped me with my panic and anxiety it has been the support you get on this site. sometimes it just helps to have people around that know exactly how you feel. I know how you feel about always worrying about going somewhere and having a panic attack. I have tried many different techniques to try to get through this feeling. sometimes I get fed up with the feeling and just try to embrace it for what it is. Sometimes I fight back the feeling (which is most exhausting) and sometimes I confront it like you would confront a bully and I say "bring it on" Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't. I wish you the best :)

Hi Martha

Welcome, I'm sorry your stress level is so high, I can relate to that, I started with A/P when I was 14 and I am 52 now. I just started taking an anti-d for my anxiety, hopefully that works. You'll get great support here and everyone is so friendly. Not to be nosey, but what meds are you taking for your anxiety, maybe you need something different to bring your anxiety under control. Again Welcome and it's nice to meet you.

Hi Martha
Yup, I have had panic attacks during sleep--what a waste of perfectly good sleep-sigh.
Am afraid of dieing i general and death by panic attack but it hasn't happened yet and draw on the fact that nothing has happened long term to get me through it.

Welcome dream we are happy to have you. As for relief it is different for everyone. Try and hang in there. Death is not an answer or a solution. No one knows what tomorrow brings and besides there are enough "little miricals" to serve as reasons to wake up in the morning. Glad to have you.

Martha I too have suffered panic attacks for about twenty years...have had good times in between thank goodness lol..but the one thing I do know for sure is that since I have been visiting this website - "I feel better than I have in ages!"
So much support is gained here..and so much wisdom is gleaned from wise people...and just reading what others have to deal with on a daily basis makes me thankful for my own life and realise how lucky I am.

Hi Martha..welcome to HW its a great place to be! I haven't had anxiety as long as you but I have the same type of anxiety, I think the cause my anxiety is the fear of dying or having something that you will die from. I just wanted to throw it out there that I have an online CBT course and the person that sent it to me his son suffered for 20yrs and now has recovered and no longer lives in fear. It does take consistency but has helped me alot with my automatic thought patterns and such. If you would like I will forward you the course. Just e-mail me, my address is in my profile and I would be happy to send them to you! You may have already tried this but I wanted to offer anyway. The way I figure it is can't hurt the more positive things I learn about coping and fighting this a/p the better I feel.

Hi Martha

Sorry I didn't answer sooner. They don't know what started my anxiety attacks, they figured maybe from dealing with Colitis/Lupus may have tiggered them. Ya I figure 14 was kinda young, I thought I had heart problems or I was nuts. I don't get panic attacks during sleep, but have stayed awake many nights due to anxiety.

hi! i am 39 and was, i now believe, MISdiagnosed 6 weeks ago as bipolar. the lithium and trileptal have made my anxiety and panic MUCH worse. after doing some research tonight, i now think that both my 1st and 2nd opinions were wrong. i think that i have had a/p for over 20 years. i am wondering what meds worked for anyone out there? i just spent 3 days in a mental health facility and it did not help, except for making me realize that there are a LOT of peeps out there far worse than i am.. it was a sort of 'sanctuary' to be ok- SAFE- with my illness, but even there, i believe i was misdiagnosed.. anyone else have this problem with misdiagnosis??

Hello Dreamchaser,

Sorry to hear about what you have been going through for so long. I have bipolar and A/P and know what you are feeling.
When was the last time you had a check up with your Psych/Therapist? Please don't hesitate to tell them how you are still feeling and that you need more help. Meds, deep breathing and talking with my therapist has helped me a lot.

My slogan is "Hang Tough" be proactive by keeping in contact with your Physicians and come here to share too! Remember every baby step forward counts. Congratulate yourself for every step you try.

Keep us posted.
