Hi everyone,
just thought i would let you all know that this coming Tuesday i have to go in for a hysterectomy, when they did my biopsy they found cancer so i think this is the best choice for me. I told the dr i would just as soon have my ovaries taken to both my mother and aunt and several cousins have had to go back in later and have their ovaries taken, so why not just get it done now. I am only 32 but the dr said he would put me on hormone therapy right after so i wouldn't feel like i am going through the change he even said my anxiety could possibly get better because i won't have the ups and downs of the periods any more. i just hope i am making the right decision by taking it all, i am just really confused! I am also really scared of being put to sleep since i take ativan and lexapro i don't know how that works with anesthesia. He said i will probably be in the hospital 1 or 2 days hopefully it won't be so bad. they are going to try to do it vaginally but since i have had 2 c-sections he said that sometimes makes it a little more difficult to get it out, so i may have a small incision if they can't do it that way. I just want this done and hopefully feel better.
                                 Thanks for letting me blabber,

Hi Amos,

I have had surgery that required anesthetic since I've been on my meds and I didn't have any problems with it. Just make sure you tell your doctor what meds you are on, and he will tell you if you need to stop any of the meds prior to surgery. I had my hysterectomy about 6 years ago, and have been on a hormone patch ever since. I really like the patches... you might ask your doc about them. My doc also took my ovaries, as he felt it was safer to just remove them at the same time, rather than risking cancer of the ovaries later on (he said he's had too many patients wait too long to have the second surgery). In my opinion, it's a wise decision that you are making to remove the ovaries now, especially if that's what the doc is recommending. I know it's scary, but it is going to be fine! Don't worry about the anesthetic... I was worried about that also, but I didn't have any problems with it at all! ((((BIG HUGS)))) and my thoughts are with you!

I just had my gallbladder removed and I take xanax. I agree with Tangerine Bear just tell the doctor what you are taking and all will be well. I was a little worried about the interaction of the drugs too but everything went smooth. I think you have made the right choice better now than later and less chance of something you don't want. I will be praying for you let us know how you are as soon as you can. ((((BIG HUGS)))) !!!!

I was on Ativan and Serzone (still am) when I had my hysterectomy 3 years ago. Just let the doctor and anesthesiologist know what you are taking. I was so scared, but the anesthesiologist gave me something to relax me in the waiting area and next thing I knew it was over and I was back in my room.

God bless you! We're here for you. Please let me know if I can do anything for you.

I also have had a hysterectomy, mine was almost 16 years ago and it was the best surgery I have had. I went from feeling good only one week a month to feeling good all the time. I was cut along my c-section line and stapled. They left in one of my ovaries. I never discussed taking them both out with my doctor at the time but I was only 28 when I had it. I was also taking several medications at the time. I carry a list of my medications and dosages in my purse with me to give them. I hope it goes well for you.

I hope everything goes really well for you. I think you're right to do the full hysterechtomy. My MIL works in the records department in a hospital and she once told me that she sees women going back to get everything out later all the time. Mind as well get it over and done with.
