Hey everyone! Oh my gosh, I had something that freaked me out happen last night. Out of nowhere I felt like my throat was closing up, like someone was choking me and I couldnt get air, my heart rate went up a bit cause I was scared, so I just tried to go to bed. I was laying in bed and my body was shaking   like I was freezing, but I wasnt cold! It really scared me!! Im sure it was a small attack but have no idea why?? What can you do when you get that choking cant breath feeling???? I just tried to take deep breaths and I guess it went away, but I felt like my throat was closing!!!

That has happened to me before when i was driving, and it scared me to death!  my mom used to get really bad panic attacks, and that's exactly how she described hers.  she was so convinced during the time when she had the attacks often, that she was actually dying and ended up in the emergency a few times.  you're fine this morning, so i'm sure that's probably all it was.

Angela,
I'm just guessing here, but I think it was likely a PA symptom. The reason I say this is cuz of this: Have you ever had a nightmare where you were so afraid that you couldn't move? Or even speak? I have and it's the terror of it that paralyzes you! It may be the same with your throat. You get so fearful that it's like your throat tightens up and you feel like you can't breathe. You think this makes sense? :)

Hi angela :) Well, out of the blue P/A's are the worst I reckon..and yes that choking feeling is terrifying..but you know what? You survived! And that's great because it means that you can take control..you did the right thing by slowing your breathing - well done! Did you have a stressful day, is there some underlying stress happening with you, if so is there some way you can work towards fixing these probs?

Take good care.

Maree
