I have been taking 60mg of Citalopram for a couple of years and have not had any problems with it. It should take a few weeks for the drug to build up in your system. I hope it helps you too.

Hello,

I also use citalopram.  I have tried other SSRI's and this one has been the best one for me.  I started low at only 5 mg a day, but got up to 40 mg over time and then finally 60 mg.

It takes a few weeks or longer to start feeling better usually with these types of meds, so give it time and good luck!

Keep us posted on your progress.

HI!  I have been on it for years and it does help. I take 40 mg., but recently cut myself down to 20.  I found that some incidents bring by the anxiety attacks, so I think I might go back up to 40.  I have had no side affects.  The only thing i noticed at 40 is that I don't cry.  Even in incidents where I shoudl be sad (i.e. funeral).  I can't cry.  When down to 20, I went to a funeral and cried my eyes out.  Weird how that works.  Good luck to you.

celexa is one of many prozac type meds, but 20 is too high a starting dose for an anxiety sufferer, IMO, unless you have previously done well on other meds of the same type

I would start at 5, just before bed by cutting the tablet if needed, a pill cutter can be got for a few dollars from a pharmacy

if all goes well, gradually up it to 10 then later to 20 The effective range is 10 to 60
sied effects are many and varied, some get none, valium type meds help reduce them but docs seldom think of this
the early side effects generally stop when the med starts working which is usually between 2 and 6 weeks, the med needs to be taken daily
theres a small chance the med will never work at any dose

celexa helped me a lot with anxiety and panic attacks and anxiety, I took it for several years
lexapro is said to be an improved version of celexa but I doubt its worth the extra cost
recovered former longtime anxiety and panic attack sufferer and helper of other sufferers  but no training or  qualifications in medicine or psychology, any remarks that may be taken as advice must be confirmed with doctor or other health professional
