i know that when people go crazy, they don't know it, which is why they're conidered 'crazy'.
Last night I was lying on the couch at my parents house, it was pretty quiet and it sounded like someone was whistling for a brief second.  my dad was in another room watching tv, and my sister and my son were playing in the same room i was in.  i'm not sure if it was any of them at all though.  my biggest fear is getting schizo....... (not sure of the spelling!).  but i'm not dillusional or anything.  I know i tend to overreact too on things (plus i have OCD).  Do you think i'm alright?  i hope i'm not getting that.  i'm really scared.  so scared to the point i didn't even want to bring up this thread for fear of what people might write back.  i hope i'm normal.  Please respond when you can

i did read somewhere that when you're stressed out and suffer from anxiety, that it is common to hear noises etc.  with me i always think the worst.  i am trying very hard to just relax, but i keep worrying about one thing after another.  i can't stand it.  i really hope all this stress will disappear soon!

worrier, i went thru that phase once for many months and i
wouldn't even believe the docs and nurses who assured me i wasn't going schizophrenic.

I was so freaked out about it that i even went out and bought a book on schizophrenia (i had an uncle who was schizophrenic and i believed that it could run in families).. This was before the internet.

From what i've been told about schizophrenia is that you normally hear  voices, not sounds. The voices are often commanding and loud like they are talking in your ear. You would easily make out what they are saying.

you mean it's not hereditary?  there's talk in the family that someone along the lines had it, and i was freaking out more because of that.

You're fine (honest!!)....I hear wierd things all the time and have OCD as well.  I've tried going crazy and it didn't work(lol).  If you're worried about going crazy then you're not.  I find it helps to hum when I hear strange things...it calms your anxiety and blocks out those "noises" that mostly are just my cat/boyfriend/the wind.  Best of luck !!! yeah

I would definitely talk to a doctor about what's bothering you, although I would think that either your anxiety is out of control, or maybe you are having panic attacks. You are NOT crazy.

I have a lot of anxiety myself as well as depression. I take two different antidepressants which help a great deal. I also have had cognitive/behavioral therapy which has helped me more than anything. It's a way of changing our thought patterns, and if you can get this therapy it usually lasts for about 14 visits which is well worth the time. I went through a free study at a local medical school.

You will be just fine. Try to keep busy and do whatever it is that calms you down and is enjoyable. You are not alone with your problem. Plenty of people suffer from the same thing.

Definately dont think you are going crazy. I know the more off I am with the A/P and depression the more I hear. I get really paranoid when I hear noises and I am easily spooked.

Hi worrier, have you asked a psychologist or psychiatrist if you are schizo? Don't be scared. They are trained in making that diagnosis. It sounds like ANXIETY but I think that you need to develop a strong working relationship with a psychologist whom you trust. When you see her/him you can ask them all of your questions about the things you are worried about and when they give you an answer -- give yourself permission to accept the answer and to relax. I'm sure that you are OK but I hope for you to learn ways to be more comfortable with life and that is what the therapist can help you with. You will be OK.

my doc went as far as sending my to a psych hospital for evaluation because i hear voices and sounds quite often , especiallly at night i hear the voices. i was scared to death about going because schizo runs im my family too , my uncle had it. and i did find out that i am not crazy nor am i schizo. i have anxiety and panic attacks along with agoraphobia (anti social) . so you are fine you are not going crazy. and i know it is easier said than done but you just have to work thru it the best way you can and find you a good doc. that will listen and get you on track.

god bless you all

Thanks guys for all the responses!!  I have been fine the past few days (because it was the weekend) and i didn't clue into any noises-so i think i bring all this on on my own!  Lyn, I would like that website please!!  i purchased the book Brainlock by Jeffrey Swartz which deals with CBT.  It's to help get over OCD.  Once i get worried over a thought, my mind stays thinking about it FOREVER, and it's so frustrating!!!!!!  I've noticed that when i'm at work, that's when my mind does the thinking and i get panicked, etc.  i have not been happy at work for months, but i'm waiting to get through the holidays before making any sudden career changes.  I think that may be the root to my anxiety.

Hi worrier,

I had that big problem before, but it went away when I stoped thinking about it. I used to hear things, but that was because I was trying hard to listen to the lowest noise. Sometimes that noice was coming from outside. There were times when I would try to hear people speaking at the same time; I would concentrate so hard on that crazy sound.

Look... what you have is "FEAR". You're using all of your sences(hearing, looking, feeling) to conclude if you're crazy. I overcame that fear, and if I did it, you could do it too.
I do still have other issues I have to become. It's too imbarassing for me to mention it here. I focus on crazy things, because I have fear of going crazy. I'm trying really hard to woman-up, and grow out of it.
As I mentioned before, I haven't seen a doctor about it, because I don't think they can help me. First I have to try and help myself for my 2 children, my job, and my happiness.
Something tells me that we pretty much dwell on the same crazy things, but like I said, the "hearing Voices Problem" is just in your head because you're afraid of it.
---You have to be strong and fight it.

I forgot to mention...
There were times when the house would be very quiet and I would hear something.

I would get scared as hell thinking that I was hearing things.  I used interupt other peoples conversation and say.... "Did you hear that Sound?".

What made me feel better was that I would say things to myself, everytime I herd a funny sound. Things such as...
"That probably was the door"
"That sound was most likely from outside"

You know... things like that.
After playing these mind games with yourself, you would eventually believe them.  :)
TRUST ME!!!
