tapered off the meds and now i am feeling depressed... is this normal and if so how long?

i stopped taking effexor about a month ago and since then have developed depression at home. is this something i can work through? has anyone had to go through this? i cry almost everyday for the most silliest reasons!!

I dont know much about meds but I would suggest you talk to the doc who prescribed them for you they might be able to shed some light on this. I am sure others will be by to share thier input. hang in there...

were you on effexor for depression or anxiety?
recovered former longtime anxiety and panic attack sufferer and helper of other sufferers  but no training or  qualifications in medicine or psychology, any remarks that may be taken as advice must be confirmed with doctor or other health professional

hi,

I guess you might call your doctor, but since the effexor is an antidepressant, I would think that not having the chemical anymore could cause you to feel depressed. That's why I can't imagine that I will ever be able to quit my meds, but then for me depression was my primary diagnosis.

I agree with Bear call your doc you may need to be on meds hun and there is NO SHAME in that

I agree too. Call your doctor and discuss how you are feeling with them. I have been taking prescription meds most of my life and have never felt ashamed to do so.
