many psychiatrists, psychologosts and counsellors used to be convinced that the only proper cure for anxiety and panic disorder was lengthy psychotherapy to uncover a hidden subconscious cause, employing the theories of freud, etc, one psych used truth serum to help

this unresolved cause was supposedly throwing up the panic attacks and anxiety and no other treatment methods could help, according to them

many sufferers had years of this, it can be enjoyable and addictive but Ive never seen anyone who was cured by it, although it does seem to be very sophisticated and elegant, much more elegant than learning to breathe deep and slow, as an example

fortunately most of these therapists are retiring and few new ones seem to accept the subconscious cause theory

Dear Harry,

You write that you are a recovered anxiety and panic attack sufferer. I have never met such a person before. I would be interested to hear about your background; how you overcame your anxiety and panic disorder and how you manage now? eyes

it took 20 years  to be diagnosed and that was by me, then meds and learning CBT and patience , also attending and later running an agoraphobia self help group
none of the docs or psychs knew what a panic attack was back then
