Hey everyone..its been awhile since I posted. I got married and the wedding was a success. No panic!! Almost had a panic attack at the alter but was able to talk myself out of it. Anyway, My question is about drinking and having a panic disorder. I dont usualy drink but I did tonight with my best friend and its on the verge of throwing me into a panic attack. Im a bit drunk, not too bad but my heart is racing and I just dont feel good. I have heard a lot with anxiety sufferers that alcohol actually HELPS them. Well its making me worse and Im freaking out a little bit. I had like 6 shots of tequila. lol This is a once every 6 months kind of thing with me and my best friend and it sucks that it makes me panic. Anyway i guess my question is...is this normal?

I can't drink, either. I used to like to drink on the weekends but I haven't been able to for a long time now. I wonder if the alcohol does something in our brains to trigger the attacks, or if the anxiety just focuses on the bad stuff the alcohol does to our bodies? I think it's the latter with me, but I can't know for sure.

Either way, it'll soon pass. Alcohol leaves the body very quickly so just try to focus on that. Drink water to speed the process up.

Thanks debaser for the response. I just woke up feeling horrible and my heart is racing out of control. I wont be drinking any more alcohol ever. Its not even worth it. I took an ativan to help relax me hopefully it'll work. I didn't want to take any because of the drinking but I didnt have a choice. Glad to know im not alone tho!

Your going to be ok hun your just worring because you did drink. I'm not a big drinker and it's never good to mix alcohol with meds but there are special times I still have a few drinks and enjoy myself. So try to relax and injoy the feeling. Please let me know how your doing and remember just because you skip your meds don't mean it's not still in your system.

I find that alcohol calms me down when I am drinking it but the morning after it really induces panic , heart racing , stomach churning , so I waste half a day just getting control of myself.

Six tequila shots is a lot of alcohol if you're not used to drinking, but it's nothing that will harm you. If you're anything like me, most of what's going on right now is anxiety. My cure for a hangover as always been water and a light meal. You need for your body to be properly hydrated and some calories will probably help, too.

Throw in anxiety with a hangover and it feels like you're going to die any minute, but don't worry. Even if it's a really bad hangover you'll be fine by the time you go to bed tonight. Probably sooner.

If you feel like you just can't deal with it at all, take a unisom or a little nyquil and just sleep it off. There's no use in suffering! Sunday's a day of rest so you might as well take advantage of it. If you decide to do that, first make sure to drink the water and eat the meal or you'll wake up feeling poorly. Speaking from experience!

I used to be quite a partier, actually, and suddenly I couldn't do it anymore. During the last two years I've barely drank at all. The last time I did I didn't really have much of a problem with it but I still don't want to take any chances. If I've been doing well I'll sometimes order a drink and nurse it forever, but that's about it. Shots? You're brave! You had fun at least for a little while last night, and for that I'm happy for you.

Well i find that drinking is the only cure for my panic. But i agree with smiler, I usually waste half a day controlling hangeoverish things until I just break down an pour another drink. I love my life

Congrats on the wedding HunnieBee, so glad you made it through panic free!!! I find a glass or two of wine helps calm me down no end but anymore than that and the anxiety the next day is unbearable....I end up much worse than I started out.  Moderation is what works for me.  Hope you're feeling better now.
