Ok what is the crazyist thing that you have done to help you deal with your a/p and anxiety that makes you feel secure about going out even if it still just a thought?

Mine is that I cut off all the frount independence suspension off my truck and put in a straght axle in the frout with leaf springs (like the older trucks) and jacked it up with 40" tall mud tires with one ton rear end's so I wouldn't get stuck in the snow and mud and digging a hole in the hill side of my land and putting in a 12x12 storage room for food, guns and ammo, bedding as a back up and some of my meds.

I know that it may sound crazy but I like being perpared for the worst as we have been cut off from the past from snow slides in the past lol

Hey freezing I don't think that's crazy - we all do what we think we have to to be safe.

Because a lot of the time I feel ill , when I go out I take my "medicine cupboard" with me

Anti - diarrhoea tablets , indigestion tablets , strong painkillers , different painkillers (incase I've had a drink and can't take the others , ordinary anti-histamine , max strength anti-histamine fexofenadine , throat sweets. Then other stuff like chewing gum , mints and boiled sweets - messing with a sweet in my mouth can distract me from panic. Lip balm , tissues and the norm , purse , keys , cell phone , hair brush , all in a handbag 6in tall and 7in long (did I mention the kitchen sink??)

Smiler tongue

Freezing Please come build me one of those storage buildings!!!!!
I would love to have one!

LOL Smiler I think you may have to upgrade to a large tote bag!

Well I use to be a really bad storm phobic and lived in texas with no basement and had to deal with hurricanes, So I made my hubby move me abunch of states away so I could have a basement and get out of the heat!
But when I get ready to go out I have to a box of tissue, lip balm, meds, cell phone even though it barley gets a signal here in the backwoods, Asprin just incase!
My brother has OCD and he has to tuch the light switch 15 times before he can leave his house. onetime I didnt relize that he was in the middle of his 15 taps and I walked by him and gave him a pinch on the side like all little sisters do to pick on thier older brothers and he got so mad and had to start all over, he almost could not leave the house that day. So I guess that is something he has to do feel safe???

This is a great post by the way!

One thing about living in Alaska one alway's needs to be perpard for something, if you have a lot of phobic's this is not a good place to live.

just in the time I have lived here I been though 4 Volcanos eruptions with ashfall out, countless earthquakes, heavy snow storms, forest fires, floodings from ice jams in the rivers and rain fall and of course the cold winters at -55 below at times and then you got only a few hours of daylight in the winter time and in the summers only a few hours of night.

And now we got the Volcano (fourpeak's) that been going off right now with just steam and ash that's not to far away. Just why o why do I live here lol.

I love living in the "country" (grew up in NYC) and dont mind having to travel to stores, etc. But your Alaska would have me living on pins and needles Dave! As it is I have to make sure my husband has gas for the generator for when we lose power (the electric co hasnt kept up with our booming growth). Being only 1 1/2 hours or so from NYC has made us a very attractive bedroom community - especially after 9/11.

I just got out of bed and washed my floor Lyn...then I vacuumed, washed all my cutlery, re-hung my new calender and washed out my cat's bowl five times (in case).  Then I checked the water filter for ants...and I found two!

Funny when I hear the dogs barking in the summer time, I go out side and have to look out for bears we tend to get a few around hear both brown and black bears even in Anchorage the biggist city here they had to kill a few brown bears in city there and with us living near a salmon river we tend to get them around hear looking for food.

The frist time I when moose hunting my four wheeler broke down so I had to go back to Anchorage for parts, after fixing it I decided to take my wife and my one kid at the time to go with me. We set up the tent and put up a big tarp over it and stupid me I forgot the tent poles but I did have some 2x4's in the bed of the truck so I proped up the tent with them inside the tent, we did no cooking that night and a few hours late we had a brown bear come in and flatten our tent, we were all asleep at the time when the tent fell down, not realizing that a bear had flatten the tent I started resetting the tent up, I then heard something outside grutting at us, I then told my wife to hole on to the 2x4 as I grab the shotgun and turned on the lights from the truck and there was a big brown bear huffing and popping his jaws at me so I fired off two rounds at him with slugs and he ran off. my wife then made me take down the tent and move it to the camp ground down the road as she was hiding in the truck with are kid. Next morning I when't back and found him dead about a hundred feet from are camp, from head to tail he was 8'4" and is now hanging on are wall.

I guess I been lucky so far one of my neighbors down the road wasn't so lucky he got mauled by two young brown bears while hunting in the hills here and was mauled pretty bad his whole face and scalp was torn apart and he showed me the pics of him at the hospital and it was pretty grusum to see and he is in the book of Alaska Bear Tells #2 if you ever get a chance you should read this book about Alaska's bears tells.
