i dont normally come to this forum but here goes...i have been diagnosed with moderate depression and moderate anxiety (the latter came as a surprise). ive always been highly stressed about little things like school, friends, doing things "wrong/illegal", and a very weird thing with my hands! i cant get them covered with flour or anything dry/powdery as it stops me breathing!! how silly! but ive always had it.

today i went to walk my dogs and got the bottom of my jeans muddy, i found myself panicking and my breathing going all shallow. i had to tell myself it was just mushy leaves, and i could take my jeans off when i got home to wash them, but i felt like i needed to tip-toe over the mud even when i was already muddy as i didnt want to add to the dirt. i almost cut the walk short as the path didnt get any less muddy. i am now home, the jeans are in the washing machine and i feel calm and very stupid.

why did i get so stressed about something so silly? at least stressing about work, family etc kinda makes sense!!

thanks for reading x

Hello Lilly

Welcome to the A/P forum were happy you joined us here.

Muddy jeans nope not to bad at least you fought it and made you dogs very happy on there walk I'm sure they enjoyed there time with you.

I have a big problem with anything sticky like, kids with candy, suckers, glue ect...can't stand to be sticky. But I have grandkids so YEP you got it there are times it just can't be helped so I try to make jokes about it to help me thru it and not pass it onto the grandkids. We say a lot of ewwww's and yuck's and laugh.

You did a great job with the muddy jeans it brings a smile to my face...keep up the good work.

welcome

sounds like you have some OCD, it goes with anxiety, are you taking any meds? an antidepressant such as prozac often helps for all the problems you mention

also helps to learn new ways of calming and relaxing yourself

Lily you're not wierd at all.  That sounds like some mild OCD that comes with panic.  I have similar problems with dishes being left on the sink, or the sink being wet, I have to have all my closet doors shut or I can't sleep.  Medication should help you with this and it should start working soon.  I hope it helps, and please don't think you're not "normal"...what's that anyway? !! lol

Germs! Although I'm getting better and better now.......I used to wash everything on a boil wash...even delicates. I had to sit infront of the machine and watch it wash so I would believe the germs were gone and make sure the machine washed them properly.

Hair - ya know when you get your hair cut , well those bits that stick and make you itch........well I spent a night sleeping on a concrete floor with no clothes on cos I though EVERYTHING had hair on it.

I used to rinse plates , wash them , soak them for 24 hours in bleach solution , rinse them , then wash them then rinse them and finally dry them (on a boiled tea towel lol) I also had to bleach the bowl I was washing up in , the surface it was on , the floor I was standing on to do it. I couldn't use the sink because the people I was living with didn't clean it enough and it was stained.

Washing myself - I had so many different lotions and potions and so many things I had to do before I could get out of the shower , I took ages. I used to take hours to put on make-up and hours getting out of the house aswell.

I am now much better even though I have never had therapy - I notice when I'm doing something now......like when I couldn't get my place mats straight , and I got the tape measure out - I stopped myself and said - hey that's going too far , I piled them up and put them in the corner.....they look nice and neat so I don't have to touch them - I only lay them out for visitors now.

So yeah you're totally wierd -NOT tongue

just to update you, i took my dogs on a walk but this time i borrowed wellies to wear, the path i took was very muddy but because my jeans were tucked into the wellies they stayed clean. my wellies got very very muddy, but its ok thats what theyre there for! i really enjoyed squelching around in the mud, even sinking up to my ankles!! glorious mud! and no hyperventilating! lol

I get worked up at times over small things as well. When I come home and the coffee table is not clean of bills and clutter I get anxious and have to clean it up. Sometimes this can snowball into anxiety. redface
