Hi yall.   Most (or some) of you know I've been taking extreme baby steps to get through my panic... I am severely agorophobic.  I hate being farther than 15 minutes from my house.

WELL today I drove 25 MINUTES from my house... and guess where I went?

THE MALL!!!  I went into the book store and then I was having the worst panic attack and every step I took I was more and more convinced I was going to faint.  (The Ativan was obviously not working)

I told myself that if I could make it through the mall to the other side I could by myself a pair of shoes.  haha

SOOO I made it into a mall, and it was SO busy and I was FREAKING out but I DID it... even tho I had a panic attack while I went through it.. I slowly got past the panic attack after about 20 minutes (thought I was going to die.. really) and then started to calm down.

Soooo I got a little shopping that I had left done... and I was happy about that...

I just thought I'd share that all with you...

today was a hard day... after I got home I had to take a two hour nap... baby steps though!!!

congrats Twiggy!

I know how hard it isl! I was becoming agoraphobic 13 years ago and my doc said you have to FIGHT IT!!! Even if you feel awful, keep fighting it! Go to the movies, go to restaurants, go shopping and you'll eventually overcome it.  It was very difficult at first but I'm so glad I did.

When I get those panicky feeling while I'm out, I just imagine myself being at home and standing in my living room. I tell myself "if this was my living room would i be feeling this way?"
then i realize it's just a panic attack, then I take a break and sit down, and then back up again.

Do you notice that you have to take a rest a lot while you're out???

Mooney... I had to stop every 30 steps and try to distract myself and thought I was going to drop to the ground and kept looking for a place to sit just to breathe for a second..

my mind was chaotic...

so yeah.. I had to keep stopping... UGH

Hi Twiggy, you should be very proud of yourself. That is a huge step not a baby step. Keep up the good work - one day at a time.

Twiggy,
I just started to get panic attacks and I am 52. I understand how scary they can be. I am a Vietnam Era Veteran who used to hang out of a Helicopter at 2000 feet firing Machine Guns. What you conquered is far greater than any fear I encountered in the Army. I just want you to be so proud of yourself and to realize how great your inner strength is. Please understand how great your accomplishments were and continue to press forward. While I do not know you personally, I can tell you without a doubt, that you have what it takes to conquer this problem. My attacks are drug induced but no less scary. I don't know your beliefs but I will pray for your future success and you made my night. Thanks
