 Hi every one,
I'm new to this chatline but am hoping to get some advice on social anxiety. I have suffered from this since I was a teenager (I am now 31) and 6 years ago I develop problems with depression, which I have been treated for with antideppresants. I have been on many medications for depression without much relied but have recently (7 weeks ago) been started on Nardil to hopefully help with the social anxiety. My Dr. believes the two problems are related.
I have found the anxiety a bit better (but not a whole lot) and I am finding that my depression seems to be worsening. I always found Christmas hard because of the social anxiety, but this year I only want to be alone. I actually shut all of our lights out last night because I was hoping people would not stop by for visits.
I had to have ECt treatments 2 years ago and am actually starting to think that this is my only option now.
Anyone have any suggestions or advice please??
Thank you for reading.

Welcome to Healing Well
I did suffer from social anxiety and still do in a small way not as bad as I use to be
I found doing Cognitive behaviour therapy and just finally going back out inot the town forming a " Teens Night" ( where they al meet and talk orplay music ) has helped me our trmendously
Also this yr I played Santa for a few days handing out Christmas hampers with food and toys to the needy thru Salvation Army
I wont lie I still get those times where all lights are out and I dont want ppl coming here

Totally agree with Lyn.

You mention meds but you don't say anything about other therapy , have you had counselling , as this can help too.

I have two CBT links that you could look at ;

tongue  Hi Smiler,
I do see a specialist (psychiatrist) but he doesn't seem to spend any time on other aids (ie:CBT). I have looked in my area for counsellors that specialize in CBT but haven't found any. I am going to read over the links that you have sent me, and I'm sure they will be of some help, I think if I could find someone to work one on one with me with this, that it would really help. I really don't see any improvement with this medication...
Thanks for sending me the links, I really appreciate and need all the help I can get.
