hey everyone, i just joined this forum because not many people who know me really understand what im going though. then i read through some of these bulletins you guys posted and realized i could relate. its a relief to know im not the only one with panic/anxiety ...i started to think i was crazy! im 17 and about 2 years ago i got the diagnosis for panic disorder , i also have underlying depression. i was taking zoloft but it prettymuch seemed to stop working for me, even though it seemed to keep the terryfying episodes of panic at bay for a while. my doctor told me to try lexapro today, so hopefuly that will help me. i also have some agoraphobia, or however you spell it. sometimes it freakes me out just to go places like that mall and i get all dizzy.
anyway i feel like im whining a lot lol but basiclaly its just really frustrating to me because everyone else around me , my friends and other people at my school seem so energized, normal, and happy. they dont have to worry that they are going to have a panic attack just walking to starbucks or something and it makes me feel liek a freak. :[ Also i love to travel not like i get to that much anyway but airplanes really freak me out. i had about 10 panic attacks on an airplane cross country flight on new years eve, not exactly a great way to ring in '07. it was so terryfying being on the plane and feeling so claustrophobic and knowing that i couldnt get off of it for another three hours. i had to take a sleeping pill, all i had to calm down but it hardly helped.
anyway just had to vent lol, hopefuly the lexapro will help because right now im just kinda down in the dumps and people are probably too bored to read this post but thanks :[

Hi, Fond!
No, we're not too bored! ;)
You are like us and we "feel your pain"! It sounds like despite your anxiety/depression, you've got a pretty good attitude! Better than mine for sure! i would've/could've NEVER gotten on that plane in the first place! You did great! Are you getting cognitive-behavioral therapy for your anxiety? If not, you definitely should! Get into it while you're still young and it'll be all that much more helpful! Keep on coming here and a BIG WELCOME to you!

I'm 25 years old, and I have had panic attacks for years already!!
when i was in high school,  there was a time i was dealing with a lot of stress and would get really bad panic attacks for some time.  it would make me dizzy to go inside malls, as well as my school (how difficult do you think that was to over come!!!!)  Seeing all the body's in the hallway made me panic, since i would be stuck with no exit!!  i had to walk outside to go from class to class, and sometimes, i'd be walking around the whole school several times a day, because i couldn't handle walking through it.  All my friends would go to the mall after school on occassion, and I always made excuses why i couldn't go because the mall made me get dizzy and panicy as well.  Finally, one day i forced myself, and it actually made it better thank God!!  I know how you're feeling though.  i'll get on an airplane too, but the second i start thinking about being trapped in the air with no way out, i panic, and it's hard to block those thoughts!  if the flight is anymore than 3 hours, i don't know if i can do it.  back to the school thing, i hated even going to school dances for some time, because once i got a severe panic attack due to the strobe lights.  you almost feel like a prisoner to yourself, but these feelings will ease up eventually.  Good luck!!!  i know it's hard, but at least you know you have these forums, which are awesome for calming your nerves!!!!  it's helped me a lot already, and i haven't been on here for too long!!!  talk to you soon!!!!!

I agree with janet. Therapy is a great way to help deal with A/P. It must be really difficult dealing with this at your age... But you sound very mature and seem to have a pretty good handle on the situation.

Keep up the good work! And look into therapy or some of the books on A/P.

Hello and again welcome to Healing Well.

First off, know that you are not alone!!  I have suffered with agorophobia for a long time, I can't deal with malls either, or stores, or restaurants or anything LOL.... so I take an Ativan everyday to ease those side effects when I'm in those sort of places.

You went on a plane on New Years !?  WOW, I'm jealous... hehe.   I would probably have 50 panic attacks on a plane, so I don't even go on them anymore.  I've tried, can't take it.

And by the way, you are NOT whining!!! nono    I whine all the time on here but it helps me to get through the hard times.  We're all here to help you out!!! So talk all that you want.  yeah

I tried Zoloft when I was 15, had a bad reaction to it, quit meds for a long time but recently (4 months ago) couldn't tolerate the anxiety and panic I was feeling anymore, so I got on Lexapro.

I hope you have luck with it.

Keep us posted!!

*HUGGGGGGS*
