Whether we have GAD, Panic or Obsessive Thoughts (OCD) as I do, I find it helpful to remind everyone it's just thoughts that bother us. Whenever, I'm obsessing I constantly remind myself they are just scary, irrational thoughts that derive from a chemical imbalance. They don't represent reality. There is a lot of CBT in this, but I don't believe you need formal therapy (there are books that help). Bottom line just reminding yourself it all derives from your thoughts really helps. Meds help in this process for me. However, knowledge is POWER and your POWER can overcome those seemingly larger than life thoughts. I have been dealing with this for 36 years. I get better at it as I get older. But, that moment in talk therapy in 1974 when I just concluded it's just thoughts was the key moment. Heck, at that point I don't even know if there was such a term as OCD. And certainly no meds that were designed to help. Just remember. It's just thoughts.
