Hello everyone,

I am new at this. I was wondering if anyone could leave their situation, would they?
I have been having a lot of problems with anxiety and have done almost everything from medications, recreational drugs, CBT, and am seeing a therapist. I have dropped out school due to having panic attacks. I was on a schorlarship and I lost it. I had a very good job and I quit. I have dropped out of school, lost my job, and I don't sleep for more that 3 hours a night.

I need some advice. My parents think that all my problems come from previous drug use and that is why they said that I need to go to a rehab center for treatment. However I have been sober and off recreational drugs for almost 6 months because I thought that drugs were causing my problems. So I have the choice of leaving everything and going to a rehabilitation center for a year of my life or I could try harder at changing my thoughts and working on CBT and staying at home. I really don't want to go to a place where there are a bunch of druggies and they are fighting a drug addiction, not a anxiety disorder.what should I do?  confused

 welcome

have you tried any antidepressant meds, if you can find 1 that works for you it will help a lot and probably stop or reduce the panic attacks

otherwise any valium type tablet disolved under the tongue will reduce a panic attack a lot

its quite likely you inherited the panic attacks they do run in familys, I WOULD STAY HOME AND MAKE A BIG EFFORT WITH THE cbt,  part of this is to breathe deep and slow when panicky

although unpleasant the panic attacks arent serious and wont harm you

stay with us and read the other posts

Hi fearful

I am really impressed with your attitude towards solving your probs.. :-) and now it's 'decision time'.

I think if you can stay off recreational drugs and alcohol for 6 months then you can do anything!

Are you on antidepressants just now? I see you are doing CBT and seeking therapy which is great. Can you do schooling from home, and do you want to? Or would finding a job be an option? How are the panic attacks these days? If you feel they are out of control best to see your health prof. and tell all - could just be a simple readjustment to your meds :)

I look forward to reading your next post.
