I was talking to a couple of my Dr. friends today who know I have the anxiety and panic attack thing going on. They were discussing heart attacks in young women, saying that it isn't rare like ppl think and that 20 percent of women under 65 have them. They both know that my greatest fear is having a heart attack so at this point I started to ignore them. Then one turns to me and says "You have been experiencing sleep disruptions and a sense of doom right? I was like yeah. Well he continues thats the biggest sign for women about to have a heart attack. I tried to explain to him that the Dr. told me I was having a panic attack when he informed me that unless I had all these test (about 6) there was no way to really tell. I asked him how to tell the difference between a PA and a heart attack and he said there was no way to tell except to come to the ER. If I did that I would be in the ER everyday. Now I'm second guessing the fact I have anxiety and wondering if maybe this is something else. Have any of you ever felt like it really wasn't anxiety? I am shaky a lot and haven't been sleeping good, tired easy, and feel like something is in my throat all the time (which he said is another sign it might not be anxiety) Is he just a great big DA for scaring me or is he right?

I think he is just a great big DA for scaring you...honestly i have had all of those symptoms for a long time and just recently had my heart and every checked out great...Anxiety is very similar to a heart attack and without tests it is hard to tell the difference...if it puts your mind at ease i say get the tests done...GOOD LUCK

Hi btflnvy,

ALL the symptoms you have described sound like classic anxiety , so please don't worry yourself.

As far as I've experienced the throat thing is quite normal with anx , others include clearing your throat , swallowing excessively , voice changes............I think it's all to do with muscle tension - deffinately the lump in the throat , all your muscles are taught and are pushing your adams apple inwards , I reckon that's the lump.

Hey your hearts getting a good workout from those P/As , you're probably fitter than your collegues :-)

The breathing exercises do wonders to curb a panic attack - as does positive thinking , both together they're a winning team.

Take care ,
