I have been at my job for almost 4 years and may be laid off.  This is quite stressful for me and I am trying to not panic at work.  I live alone paycheck to paycheck and will be hurt badly if I am the one to go.  My boss said he is trying to let the other guy go since I am a better worker with more knowledge, the other guy has been here 10 years and has seniority so it could be either of us.  My boss says he is not making the final decision.
I have been laid off three times before.  The last one was for 14 months and the ensuing major depression almost killed me, literally.  It will most likely happen between now and the end of the month.  I have crohn's disease and IBS and my guts are gurgling already.  I took a half a xanax to ease my nerves a little, that was news I was not expecting.  I can't afford COBRA and would have to go without insurance and medication.
I am a mechanical drafter/designer and jobs are few and far between these days.  I'm not really asking for advice, I just needed to get this off my chest.  Any good thoughts would be welcome though.

whatever will be will be,

I suspect that if you stop worrying about it this will help the boss decide to keep you

Bluemeanies, I am so sorry to hear about your situation, but I am going through the same after being laid-off. And now I am sick of it. I have been doing contract work, and now I find it difficult to find a permanent one. I am simply fed-up with everything.

I just changed the med, and now on Trazadone (spl) and well, I have to give it time to work.

But I am feeling down in the dumbs.....

Keep us posted as to what will happen.

Update: I am not able to tell anyone at work about this or try to plead my case as to why I should be kept. Yesterday on the way home I got very angry with my boss for telling me. It took me a couple of hours to get over the anger. I have not seen or talked to my boss since he told me two days ago so I do not have a clue as to what is going on. As far as I know my name is still on the list to be laid off. So today I made copies of my drawings for future job interviews. I am trying to prepare myself and not freak out or dwell on it too much, as I have a tendancy to do. Hopefully it will happen Friday or Monday, I can't take the not knowing. I'll let y'all know what happens.

It's the waiting and wondering that is the worse part. That's what got me going so bad worrying about my husbands job. I still do, but there is nothing I can do about it except wait.

I hope everything works out ok for you!!!
