I've hurt for the last week or so everytime I eat something fatty. We had pizza and OMH, I hurt up under my ribs, around to my back and down one arm. The same thing when we had McDonald's. Now it just hurts no matter what I eat. I had a bowl of Special K this morning and I hurt. At first I thought it was a bleeding ulcer, but after looking in my pathophysiology book, my symptoms are beeter suited for gall bladder. My next stop is Web MD. Does anyone have any experience with this? I'm in the right age group, female, overweight, etc., etc., etc. Wish me luck. I don't want to go through anymore surgeries or hospital stays.

I thought I was having GB problems last year. I was having abdominal pains all over, but mostly in the upper right quadrant and in my rib cage. I was definitely having bowel issues!!! I had many tests done, including ultrasounds and the HIDA scan. Turns out its just IBS, no surprise there. My anxiety wreaks havoc on my digestive system, among many other systems! Get the ultrasound and HIDA scan for sure. Those are the only tests that will tell you for sure if it is the gallbladder. If it is, my good friend just had hers out and the surgery really was not bad at all. No one wants surgery, but if it is a bad GB you definitely want it out! Could just be IBS too.
Good luck!!!

I had my gallbladder removed a little over a year ago and the pain was very bad. But I also had a stone that had slipped into my bile duct blocking off my pancreas and liver so that was the final straw..that pain was unbearable. Let me give you a piece of advice go have an ultrasound done thats the only way to be sure and if you do need to have it removed know that it is a common surgery and you will be home either the same day or the next! I had mine out on a Thursday went home Friday morning and was at my brothers wedding dancing that Saturday! eyes
This too shall pass!! Take care,Dottie :)

Well, I got an appt with my PCP and had blood drawn, had a UA, poked and prodded etc. The lab results aren't back yet, maybe in the AM. I have an ultrasound scheduled for the AM also. I was at his office for 3 hours! By the time I got home, I was hungry. So thinking that pudding might be ok, I had some rice pudding. I'm now back to hurting again. I'm supposed to be NPO after midnight for the ultrasound, but I'm thinking I'm NPO until this is figured out and over. I'll just drink water, Gatorade, diet coke and fresca. Maybe this will help me lose some weight. There's my bright side to this. If there is one. HHHMMMM.....

Hello,  I just had my gallbladder and appendix out 6 weeks ago.. I had pain for years and they kept saying IBS  I hate that word!!!  Well I moved from Florida to Cleveland 4 months ago.. I went and had a hyda scan done and my gallbladder was not working at all.. You need to have the hyda scan done.. Not just an ultrasound..  The ultrasound will show if you have stones not if it is not working properly.. The surgery itself is cake.. In and out in a day.. Take Care..

Well I just got home from the Dr.'s and had an ultrasound done. It showed everything was clear. No gall stones and no blockages. One thing that caught my attension was that while the radiologist was talking to my Dr., she said that I had a small biliary duct. I have quite a bit of medical knowledge being that I'm studying to be a respiratory therapist and you have to go through a lot of anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology. That just didn't sit right with me. My Dr. made an appt with a gastroenterologist for Feb 6th. Either she will do a hydascan or try and see if I have an ulcer. I wouldn't doubt the ulcer at all. I'm the biggest worrier ever. I worry about everything and obsess over everything. That stirs up the acids in the stomach and can eat away the lining of your stomach. So for now, I'm on hold. I'm unsure of what to eat as everything including pudding, jello, etc. hurts. I can however drink Diet Coke, Gatorade and Fresca. Is that bizzare or what. Who the he** knows. I'm just tired of hurting. I guess I wanted it to be my gallbladder so it would be a quick fix. No luck. I'll keep you all informed as to my status. Right now, I'm worrying about what else it could be. I hate anxiety!

Glad to hear that you are taking care of things. The waiting really is the worst part. Definitely get the HIDA. Your GB can still be bad even though the other tests are normal. The HIDA will be able to tell if it is not working.
Good luck!!

Hi Lillye and welcome to the A/P board. I am sorry that you aren't feeling well. Anxiety certainly can ramp up when we are sick/in pain, and waiting on medical tests! I have a lot of anxiety concerning my health, and these things are such a challenge to get through!

This post is a rather old one...would you like to start a new thread of your own? It is easier for more members to recognize and respond to you this way, so feel free:)

I hope that all turns out well for you, and that you get the answers and treatment that you need very soon!

Take care,
