Try to deal with their anxiety by playing little head games with themselves? For instance, when I am worried about something I will tell myself "If I make it home from work on or before a certain time I won't get fired" or "Everything will be alright if I make this green light". Sometimes I will do this all day long. I am just wondering if anyone else does this and what they think of it. In my right mind, I know it is ridiculous, but it is as though I can not stop. AND I am totally crushed when I don't "pass" one of these self-designed tests. Rational thought goes right out the window when I am worried about something. I will also utilize other tactics towards the same end. In fact, I just spent the better part of the morning asking questions of my magic 8 ball ( my heart literally racing while waiting for the 8 - ball's reply). It sounds too crazy to be real, but it is true. Thank you for any input you can give me.

I think many of us do it. It's part and parcel of obsessive and racing thoughts that comes with anxiety disorders.

Medication can really help with this, but CBT is particularly effective for dealing with obsessive thinking. Both work really well for me.

HI
I also think its OCD, which is an anxiety disorder many of us have, including me

self help books on overcoming OCD have useful advice, an antidepressant med sometimes helps
recovered former longtime anxiety and panic attack sufferer and helper of other sufferers  but no training or  qualifications in medicine or psychology, any remarks that may be taken as advice must be confirmed with doctor or other health professional
