I've been on Prilosec OTC (omeprazole) for about two years now for GERD and have been recently prescribed Celexa by another physician. When I look up Celexa on the net I see there is a possible interaction between Celexa and Prilosec. Does anyone know what this is about? What could happen?
Thanks

I dont know to much about it but my sister was on celexa for a month then was also prescibed Prilosec. She toke the combined of both for only a couple days before she starting having vomiting and diarreha. She could not hold down anything and was burning a fever. Then she looked up the interactions online and was told the same thing, They do interact and not to take them together. I believe it was the Prilosec website that told her not to take that with any anti-depressant. I am not %100 positive that her symptons had to do with the combination, but were pretty sure. I suggest you call your Doctor, just to be safe. Goodluck with everything!

it helps if you can find a pharmacist who will talk to and ask him, otherwise continue to research it on the net

Ive had GERD and its not pleasant, anything that reduces your anxiety usually reduces the GERD

try alfalfa tablets, they can calm the digestive system and are just a food supliment

Thank you both for your reply.  I called the company that manufactures Celexa and they told me they do not list Prilosec or other proton pump inhibitors as drugs that can interact with Celexa. The guy said you will find all kinds of information on web sites, but won't find any reference to the inteaction on their web site. We'll see.
Thanks again

I spoke to my  pharmacist today and he looked in his little book and said there is no interaction between the two.
